There are moments when I think I’d like to go to Burning Man, mostly when I see some of the creative vehicles. Not so when I see the inevitable dust storms. Here’s a few from this year’s event, although I don’t guarantee that. This is my favorite, and supposedly there’s a 1973 Cadillac under there somewhere.

That first one is OutStanding! Cadillac Man from the Twenty-Third Century! Except it’s got a Packard grille. I really would like to ask the man who owns one.
This page (with another picture) says “Rocket Car, built by David Best, based on a 1973 Cadillac. This classic american car converted by David Best into an outrageously long black rocket car has been at Burning Man for many years, and it has become a fixture. Watch the video of the making of the rocket car.”
You really must have a look at that video, at least the last two minutes where we see Best and his friends cruising around in it. The donor Caddy had Oregon plates! Warning: Sawzall scenes: not for the squeamish.
Like you, Burning Man has always been exciting and attractive to me, from the cool comfort of my computer screen.

A car I temporailly owned was turned in to an art car for burning man about a decade ago. It was a V864 powered Cadillac that I ended up with from one of my tenants. It was turned into the Shark Bar which became infamous and was told it couldn’t return. It was constructed in the Everett Wa area and made the trip to Burning man mostly assembled. As far as I can tell this is it.

What does it take to get banned from Burning Man? Were they distributing RNC propaganda?
Here is the official letter underneath the one to LaContessa http://afterburn.burningman.com/03/playa_safety/dmvletters.html Early on they required them to remove the side fins you can see laying up against it here, because they clipped a few things with them.

The (glorious) basterds! Hairy, hippie, hypocritical basterds! I just read those letters. Though the subject matter seems plausible enough, the language of the letters and the reaction is very patronising.

Why? If they were so dangerous, why weren’t they removed quickly? So as not to bust the participants’ bubble, that’s why. They would have a nanny state if they could. Hypocrites, all of them. Giving liberty a bad name.
They knock over/ran down a number of people with those fins on the side before they were told to remove them. They also reportedly took the door off of a guy’s 57 Chevy pickup. They were also generally belligerent drunks according to my friend who connected the builder of the Shark Bar with me and is certainly one of the people in at least one of those photos.
Note there have been other Shark cars inspired by it.
