David Saunders has made an excellent case for getting by without a pickup truck with his Mercedes sedan, but there’s just times that just won’t do. And here’s the solution: a Mercedes W108 pickup, with Super Cab styling inspired by one of those crude American pickups. 
This is just the thing to have for hauling a load of chicken manure for the garden or cleaning out a meth lab, but with dignity and style.
No telling exactly which model this is, but I suspect its a six and not a 300SEL 6.3, given its modest single exhaust outlet.
Even a genuine wood plank bed floor, but not Zebrano wood, I’m afraid.
If the cab styling has a touch of Ford to it, the theme was carried inside as well, with what look like Ford seats. But that’s not a a Ford shifter, so no Powerstroke under the hood.
Yes, this Benzamino likes to hang out with the big white Fords. I’d try to translate “Super Duty” into German, but I think something would get lost in the translation.
There seem to be a number of these conversions out there. Although it cuts down on total load space I’m a fan of re-using the rear window to give a more rounded look.

David that was the style of the original ‘coupe utility’ in Australia until 1958 (all based on full-size Fords).
Of course out here just about everything has been turned into a ute, from Volvo 240 to Jaguar XJ6 to 65 Mustang to Rolls Royce.
Personally I prefer the sportier handling and more compact size of the BMW 2002 pickup. This particular vehicle belongs to BMW specialist in Portland OR and was converted in the 70s.

I checked the plate, it’s registered as a 1977 Dodge W200 with a V8 running on LPG.
I wouldn’t have thought I’d enjoy looking at a Merc pickup, but I kind of like it.
The mercedes w115 was sold oficially as pickup in Argentina, in a time when import cars were forbidden, but utilitarians could be built from imported CKDs. I like that orange single cab ! Really, a W115 with a diesel engine was a workhorse in sedan-disguise, so why not a pickup ? In the seventies it was the only car here that could pull decent (tandem axle) trailers for many years in a row without falling apart into pieces.
Agreed the single cab (or normal ute) is great – the double cab is a neat way to get around the ban on sedans, bet they were popular.
I almost bought this in 2006, the suspect build quality was the reason why.
I have a bit of backstory on this, it was built in Texas in the 70s by an import car service shop as a shop truck and it was a six-cylinder. No idea what the Ford Aerostar seats are doing in it. It’s currently owned by an import car shop in Eugene.
