Dig the AAA sticker! Some really old people still paste 1-2 of those puppies on the back bumper of their Crown Vic/Lucerne/MK-whatever and think they’re cool. 50 years ago, maybe they were. Having AAA in 2012. means. absoultely. nothing.
Au contraire – when the transmission on your minivan breaks in your driveway and you need the car towed to the mechanic, you can sign up for AAA Plus and the tow is free. Then, I get free emergency road service for the next year. When 2 of the 4 cars are 1989 and 1993 Panthers with high school and college kids running around, it is some peace of mind. But I did not plaster the sticker on any of my cars.
I know, I have the same service through Liberty Mutual. I’m sure AAA has fine insurance, but I’m talking specifically about the practice of putting their sticker on the car. It used to be a sort of status symbol to do that. It showed other drivers that you considered yourself to be sort of worldly, I guess. Many of those drivers probably also had an old TripTik or two stuffed in the glovebox. Or, if driving a Cadillac, maybe it was in the ubiquitous on-board trash can.
My son’s 89 Grand Marquis still has a AAA sticker at the top rear of the drivers side window, of all places. I often joke that a threshold requirement for any used car I buy is that there must be at least one AAA sticker on it somewhere.
This is just screaming “Pontiac Safari” at me, don’t know why. The backup lights sure don’t match any of the images I can find. But if I’m going to go with a Safari, then it’s a late-sixties though 1970.
