Those of you who have been around will recognize this as the top of Skinner Butte, which overlooks downtown Eugene and is a popular destination for our urban rambles. And I make a point to shoot whatever cars happen to present themselves in the overlook parking lot. Time moves on, even in Curbsidelandia, and there’s not quite as many old cars on the road as there used to be. But this was a rather nice collection, shot just an hour ago, and hopefully worthy to be shared. And yes, it’s been wet and rainy here.
That’s a great picture, one day I will need to make it out there again and check out the Butte for myself. Good selection of cars too, from least present value to greatest present value the further back you go.
Geo Metro, Toyota Truck, BMW 530i (I think with those wheels) , and Chrysler 300 but not the “C” as the wheels look like the 18″ offering.
As day turns to dusk and then dark, do the cars up there become “occupied”? With teenagers on the weekends and down-on-their-luckers every night?
I think that is not a Geo Metro but the Suzuki Swift due to the reverse lights running along the top of the tail lights instead of being close to the middle of the tail lights. Unless somebody switched the lights from a Metro to a Swift.
I stand corrected, upon enlarging the photo I believe I can even see the Suzuki badging. Good call!
Yeah well we’re copping 40 degrees Celcius (104 F) in Melbourne right now. Not pleasant.

At least the cool, cleansing rains have arrived today. Not a bad contrast, 43C/109F yesterday and 19C/66F today!
Aggh, a long bed Toyota pickup. You never see those in my neck of the woods.
One really cool thing with the 4th-gen Pickup was that the Xtra Cab, being quite literally an extra 6″ of cab and not a true “extended cab,” was available with both the 6′ and 7′ bed. I have no idea how many of the latter were actually made, but it couldn’t have been all that many. An Xtra Cab long bed today would be a rare beast indeed .
You hardly see any of that generation Toyota pickup truck on the road anymore. They all rusted out. I used to wonder why Nissan named their trucks Hardbody and it was because the bed was better protected from rust by them making the bed double walled.
Here is a 1987 reg cab Toyota pickup that the place i get my cars from uses as a shop truck. It was used as a base for a large light up Santa Claus during the holidays.
Those ABC 123 formatted Doug Fir license plates on the Suzuki are getting rarer by the year and the oldest Doug Fir Plates are about 28 years old.
The fact that it’s a Swift rather than a Metro is extra noteworthy…
