Pikes Peak 2012 – Good Thing I Wasn’t Standing There This Year

In my post on the 1977 Pikes Peak Hillclimb  I did all of my shooting at the two left-hand turns that make up Devil’s Playground. This location is a favorite for press photographers as many of the stock cars once hung their tail ends out over what appears to be a bottomless abyss. To get my more dramatic shots of the first turn, I had to position myself off the road just beyond the apex of the turn. Had any of the drivers done what Jeremy Foley did this past Saturday (Aug 11) I wouldn’t be around to tell my car stories today. Check out this slo-mo YouTube clip of Foley’s wild ride:
