The unexpected thrust of the Olds Cutlass Jetfire turbocharged V8 was thrilling, especially or such a small little engine. Its graphic effect on female passengers has been captured so perfectly in this X-rated video 1961 tv spot.

When I was 17(circa 89) I had just finalized the life of my mom’s 83 Mercury Lynx (5 speed!).. There was a choice to be made as to my next vehicle. Option 1. My Uncle’s de-turbo 63 Jetfire or Option 2. A 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix with the barn burning Pontiac 4.3 v8/T200.. Guess what I got..
The Ponch left the stable after the second trans rebuild.
The DeJetfired Jetfire was ruled out because my dad remembered them on the road..

Nothing like a turbocharger to provide a little surprise thrill for the ladies…(who are riding in the back seat, where they apparently belonged in 1961).
These are sharp cars…the 1961-62 coupes are especially handsome. It’s too bad that GM didn’t refine the technology in the BOP compacts instead of taking the easy way out for 1964.
