But it has its advantages: look how the front wheel is right up against the curb. In what other car could your hot date step in so easily, without any possible risk of having to actually put her high heels down in the gutter. You have to be joking Paul. The best thing about the Reliant is that when the 750 Motor Club ran out of sidevalve Austin 7 engines for their racing cars, they were able to substitute sidevalve Reliant engines.
I found a strange 3 wheeled device on Sunday its on the cohort but i know nothing about it. Just one of several vehicles I figured would get people scratdhing their heads.
It’s a Carver (thanks to the badge on the back), which is a leaning/tilting 3 wheeler. They tested one on Top Gear a few years back.

Few years ago, I saw what it looked like original “Trotters independent trading Co. ” Reliant in my neighborhood, together with roof rack, Scruffy suitcase, rust and all. A really unusual sight indeed. Turns out that some guy from England decided to open a pub in Zagreb, Dell’s pub or something similar.
He drove this car all the way from England, which is quite an adventure, with todays traffic and all.
So he opened the car for my son and me so we could seat inside (I had no desire to actually drive it :-). Even sitting inside was kind’a scarry, the hump in the middle is enormous, you have to squeeze your feet together and to the side of the car, behind that light. Even the slightest crash in this car would be very dangerous.
Interesting topic, with a variation you don’t get in 4-wheel cars of ‘practical’ ones with 2 wheels at the rear, and ‘sporty’ ones with 2 wheels at the front. The last 3 wheeler I saw was a pre-WW2 Morgan with 2 at the front.
I also remember something about John Surtees setting a lap record at Silverstone in a Bond 875.
One of Top Gear UK’s funniest bits ever is Jeremy Clarkson continually flipping a Reliant 3 wheeler on its side…makes me giggle just thinking about it… 😀
