I can recommend chinese motorcycles up to 125cc. My old chinese “Ravi Piaggio 125” is one of the first, a 2005 model and still alive and kickin’. Oddly enough it is not a Piaggio engine, as the name may suggest, but rather a Yamaha klon. However, engine works fine, hang-on parts like speedo are scary of course, I changed that to VDO Conti.
I love Alibaba and MadeinChina. The ridiculous things for sale. Want 14,000 1/2″ gaskets? A 10-axle mobile crane? An industrial injection molding machine? 50,000 souvenir smiley face keychains? All available. Just call Ms. Laura Weng, Mr. Roger Li, or Mr. Wong. Usually with a stock image of a smiling Chinese person beckoning you to spend money. And tons and tons of poorly translated English descriptions.
The points of contact on these absurd items are just as absurd as the items and listings.
Chinese to Western trade is absolutely fascinating.
These cheap electric low speed cars are a huge thing in China. No driver’s license, so Mom can run errands and take the kids to school. I can see the appeal in certain situations.
As I think you or someone else on the site noted, we have the same thing in the EU – sort of. The problem is, these things cannot really mix it with “normal” traffic (I overtook one going to Billa on my Bicycle today and I was not going very fast). I do have sympathy with older folks who need to get around but not when the user has a 20 cars behind him or her (on a Bundesstraße!) and is too bloody-minded not to pull over into a lay-by to allow them to overtake, which is often the case.
How much faster does it go if you turn off the factory air conditioning?
Not much faster, perhaps 10 MPH. The real problem is when you have to stop to use the winch and help that 18-wheeler hanging out of a bridge.
