I’m thinking Audi, 1980s or early ’90s. An Audi 80 maybe?
1st gen Mercury Sable
I’ll throw my guess in. A 1988/89 Pontiac Bonneville.
I’d say 1st gen Mercury Sable also — I had one.
Yup, Mercury Sable, back when they had cool light bars across the front. For those folks who wanted a Ford Taurus and then some.
It’s funny, from 89-92 my folks had both. My dad had an 89 Taurus SHO and my mom had a 90 Sable (wagon). Both were rather loaded out, the SHO was a company car and that is why we didn’t have it more than 3 years. However, my mom always thought the Sable to be a bit better…after all, it was a Mercury and had a light bar. After 9 years, 2 transaxles and a blown headgasket it was a tax write-off. No more FWD Fords, but my dad started getting Explorers for company vehicles, still does…which makes sense in Utah.
It’s not a Sable. The taillights are more convex, the 86-88 models had black trim on the bottom and the 89-91 had chrome trim. There is seam below the trim piece, all bumper. Also, both had vertical black lines for a gradient effect.
It looks very similiar to my wife’s old 760 Turbo, but they didn’t have chrome along the bottom edge.
+1 — not a Sable.
Late 80s-early 90s Cougar?
1975-79 Datsun 200SX?
I’m coming up with about a ’90 Cougar also, though the more I look at it, the more wrong it seems. This is one I’d actually have a shot at and yet I’m still drawing mostly a blank.
Other things that fired through my synapses were a big Mazda 929, an Acura Vigor or something, a mid-90s Hyundai Sonata, uh…
Paul’s trying to pull another fast one on us. I’ll bet it’s some sort of motor home.
As I said last night, it reminded me of the Volvo 760, seperate rear bumper (you can see the body seam), lower red portion of the tailight but with a chrome piece running horizontally and bisecting, as well as chrome around the outside of the light. Definitely “feels” European and 80’s vintage.
I think it’s a BMW 5-series, 1981-1988.
Of course, right after I post…Paul posted a video of the car I was talking about.
I wouldn’t put it past Paul to try a motorcycle CC Clue someday. Pssst! Are there any 1969 Honda CB750s in your town (hint hint)?

Wow, the Hive Mind strikes again! I mentioned the CB-750 just because it was THE motorcycle that got people away from the loud Harley/Hells Angels mindset. With great performance, outstanding reliability that foreshadowed the Civics, Preludes, and Accords to come, and a revolutionary engine in the form of an OHC inline Four, it won raves and accolades from most every motorcycle reviewer of the time. Truly the first Superbike.
You know, the ’92 Crown Vic had an ass kinda like that.
