CC Global: Car Carriers – The Show’s Supporting Characters In 2018

When visiting car shows, I always try to spot the commercial vehicles at the event. Often these can be found on the periphery of the main party, a typical example is this 2016 Ifor Williams tandem trailer, towed by a Ford F-250 Super Duty Lariat.

And suddenly the trailer seems to be shrunken…the truck is powered by a 6.7 liter Power Stroke turbodiesel.

Somewhat later a 2011 Hyundai i10 kept the Ford company.

Here’s a 2017 Peugeot Boxer (aka Citroën Jumper, Fiat Ducato and Ram ProMaster) with a 3.0 liter four-cylinder FPT turbodiesel. That engine can also be found under the hood of the bigger and heavier Iveco Daily. Just like the FWD Boxer/Jumper/Ducato, the RWD Daily is available as a panel van, a chassis cab and a minibus.

For the time being, that old Citroën 2CV is going nowhere! As you can see, the Peugeot truck has a trailer hitch. So if desired, you can pick up another French barn find at the same time.

A German couple. The 2008 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313 CDI box truck is towing a 2002 Tijhof trailer with a classic Hanomag-Henschel F25 chassis cab as its load. These Hanomag-Henschels are also known as the Harburger Transporters.

1980 Scania car (or something much bigger) carrier. According to its registration, the conventional 4×2 truck is powered by a 7.8 liter engine. Therefore, the correct model designation on the hood’s side should be 82 instead of 112, as the 112 has an 11 liter power unit.

I saved the best for last, a magnificent 1957 Mercedes-Benz LP 312 enclosed truck. Typically, this type of bodies -with a crew cab- was used for moving trucks…

…but this one is certainly not hauling furniture. The Alfa Romeo is registered as a 1953 1.9 Spider.

It must be a tribute to the one-off Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 Disco Volante a fianchi stretti, part of the famous Schlumpf Collection.

Has anyone any idea who could have built this? Or maybe we should just contact the Don Andreina Racing Team.
