Well, it was built in Maryslville, Ohio, so it gets to wear the stars and stripes. And it is very civic-minded. And it’s the only flag-painted car I have readily at hand. Speaking of hands:
My hands are going to be very busy painting, fixing and cleaning one of my rentals. When three young guys live in a house for four years, it does take some doing to get it back in spic-span shape. Not really complaining; it’s just the life of a landlord: collect rent all year, and work your butt off for a few weeks in the summer. But that means our fresh content level is going to be a bit sparse over the weekend.
But here’s to wishing you all a happy 4th of July weekend, and hoping you spend yours a bit more pleasantly than I will. Got any plans?
Watch fireworks in Portland and swim at Sauvie Island. The locals tell me the lack of precipitation last Winter means this Summer is going to be unreasonably warm.

Tomorrow evening I’ll be sitting on the state capital lawn, watching fireworks being set off from a barge sitting in the river. Oh, and I’ll be grilling pork steaks, hamburgers, and likely hot dogs. If anyone is in the neighborhood give me a call.
I am luxuriating in being of an age where the kids will be off doing their own thing, leaving the Mrs. and I to our own devices. Perhaps there will be a cruise in the Miata, weather permitting, of course. Besides the usual grilling and eating, of course.

College-town landlords have an especially thankless job. In my younger years I was among those nasty ungrateful tenants who left a mess that the landlord had to clean up.
I can’t go back and apologize to those 1972 landlords, but I can apologize vicariously to Paul. Sorry!

I’m taking one of our Foster boys to a road rally in the morning , I did a hot oil & filter change on the car , washed the engine and windows , we should have some fun plus we always stop in at the BBQ at the end and eat ’till we’re rolly polly .

Ah, my first new car – could it be burgandy on burgandy under those patriotic trimmings? I’ve had bigger and fancier cars since, but none that was as fun to drive. Look at that stance – like a go kart. And that beltline, and that glass area. Looked awful on an Maestro, works fine here.
There’s finally no rain this weekend. I’ll clean up the Forester, take it in for an oil change and pack it up for an exciting week of remodeling a mom and pop grocery store in Portageville, MO.
At least there’s free beer at the Drury every night at 5:30!

Happy independence day its just a regular Sunday for me I’ll be cruising a 460hp Isuzu all day 8 axles 28 wheels 45 tonnes 18 gears to play with.
Car show in the morning, followed by an afternoon nap and then grilling dinner, the town parade & fireworks.
I’m in beautiful South Haven, Michigan for the weekend of the 4th. We enjoyed a relaxing day yesterday, but today we have an agenda of things to do.
Then, come Monday, back to the grind.

Think I’ll just stay home and enjoy the neighborhood fireworks show this year. Won’t make the same mistake I did last year and leave all the windows open. All that smoke and powder settled into the carpet and furniture and took a while to get rid of the odor! Have a great 4th.
We won’t be having the fireworks show here in the culdesac this year – it has been so unseasonably hot and dry that almost no one has set off any fireworks at all…the quietest Independence Day in decades. We’ll be just the two of us too as the daughter and son-in-law are returning from a week in Yellowstone with the new baby and the two dogs in their camper.

Closed on a new house last week, so the wife and I spent the long weekend unpacking, organizing, and attending to projects. Don’t have a grill yet, plus it rained anyway, so skipped the cookout–there’s always next year. Having just concluded business with our (hopefully) last rental and landlord, we did some paint work but decided to hire a cleaning service to give it a final once-over and make the landlord’s life a little easier this time (plus get more of our deposit back!)
