Reminds me of the Mercedes Auto 2000 concept car, that really looked like a W126 5-door hatchback.

You forget that GM air conditioning units were once the envy of the world. (Fast forward to today) I drove a 1st gen Equinox that couldn’t keep up with the heat on an 80 degree day in the low humidty desert Southwest, and the stupid thing was even painted white to reflect the heat.
That’s truly sad.

I’d bet it has something to do with keeping fuel economy up on these newer cars. I remember the unit we had in our Delta 88, even as the car aged, that thing could keep our black on black car cold enough to hang meat in,
With our dark blue 2009 G6, we can get the car to cool down sufficiently, but it seems that it just doesn’t get to my required -20 fahrenheit (just kidding) for summer driving, no matter how I set the controls.
Has to be because of fuel economy. The unit in my Corsica was cold enough to fog my glasses when getting out of it on a humid day.
My 1982 Chevy Celebrity would fog your glasses too. And this was in 1997 with 150,000 miles on it.
Not sure if it’s all due to fuel economy…couldn’t the decrease in coolness be due to the switch in refrigerant from R-12 to R-134a, which occurred sometime in the early 1990s?
Nope. My ’95 Corsica ran R-134a. So something occurred with GM’s air conditioners between 1998 (my Intrigue was ice cold too) and whatever year educatordan’s borrowed Equinox came out.
2007 model, 3400V6 AWD. It’s part of my school districts fleet – honestly the old Ford Taurus’ that are rattling around the parking lot are worlds better in cooling their occupants.
