So Boar rack featured on the options list I never Knew.
Porche offered the Black Forest Boar as a dealer installed option for 1959. Only one buyer named Mason Verger took them up on that offer.
If they offered this option today on the 911 it would be $40,000
With an extra $25,000 for the boar 🙂

This VW Amarok must be one of its successors. I just discovered that Volkswagen has a “für Jäger” (for hunters)-page on its German website. They have 3 Hunter-Models, members of the Deutscher Jagdverband (DJV, the German hunters association) actually get a discount when buying one.

When I looked under the old clapped-out 230SL I had back in the 1970’s, I noticed that the paint was well worn on the bottoms of the rocker panels, and a couple of projecting bolt ends were bent toward the back of the car. I suspect that the guy who had that Porsche may well have been a previous owner.

The ingenious Porsche engineers provided about 5 cm of space between the vents and the rack.
You are correct: “Schuetzenverein” means “Shooting Club” but they shoot on targets.
This fellow may have been a member of a “Jaeger Verein” which means “Hunting Club”. They shoot at anything that moves. “Weidmann’s Heil!”
This car was registered in the “Landkreis Reutlingen”. Not far from the home of the Porsche AG in Stuttgart.
If I only could figure out how to put the dots on a vowel….Placing the ‘e’ after the vowel is correct too but it looks wrong to me.

The diacritical-mark characters such as ü & é are part of ISO8859-1, AKA Latin-1, which covers most European languages. It is the first 256 characters of Unicode, which encodes all the world’s alphabets. To use set notation, ASCII ⊂ Latin-1 ⊂ Unicode.
If you have a Macintosh, it's trivial to enter many of these; e.g., Option-u u enters ü. OTOH Windows makes one memorize character codes for Alt. What I do instead is leave Character Map open & copy/paste from there, while many Office apps have a command to enter special characters.
Indeed, Germans are big on “Vereine”. Every “Verein” has a “Satzung” and officers etc. “Vereinspolitik” is part of the culture and they have a name for that too: “Vereinsmaierei”. The abbreviation “e.V.” stands for “eingetrager Verein” which means “registered club”.
I bet there is a “Verein für Umlaute und Diphtongs, e. V.”

When immigrant Germans were a more overt presence in America a century ago, they had many Vereine & Bundes. WW1 Germanophobia (a clear-cut case of mass hysteria) & assimilation put the brakes on these since then.
……to think that German lost out by only one congressional vote to become the official language of the USA.

Nice photo, wonder how they hoisted that big Boar up there? At least up there if it leaks it will not get on or stink up the interior. I hear that a Wild Boar’s attitude is set to permanently pissed off which is why Texans can use Machine Guns to hunt them.

The 356 I saw last week with a rack must have been either about to go on a hunt or not been a very good hunter. Must post the (poor) photo to the cohort.
One of my teachers in college had been an engineer for Rockwell and worked at the Cape during the Apollo program. One day he was motoring along on the Cape in his VW bug, when a deer ran into the road and he hit it. The Space Center is in a wildlife refuge, so he figured he better report killing the deer, and loaded the corpse into the back of his bug. As he drove up to the guard house at the gate to report the incident, he heard a snort from the back seat. The deer had only been stunned and proceeded to go nuts. He bailed out of the car. The guards ran over and when they saw what was going on pulled their pistols and emptied them into the deer.
The bug was somewhat the worse for the occasion.
Good lord… Growing up at my parent’s house, our neighbors had a similar disastrous experience. A pregnant doe, in labor, smashed thru their basement siding glass door and gave birth to her fawn in the house. She then proceeded to completely destroy that basement in an attempt to find a way out. Blood was absolutely everywhere; I believe she died before she could find her way out again. Don’t remember what happened to the fawn.

When I gave my Son my old 1963 356B Coupe , he remembered I used to go camping in it and every other old car I’d had so he loaded up his Fiance and went to The Moterey Historic Races and camped out of it , amazing all the others there who were in RV’s ~ times change , the cars are still good for whatever you want them to do .
If you’re not going to drive it , SELL the damn thing .
