It was a good day at the Junkyard all the way around. Not only did I find a 1974 Mustang II grille (a single year part), but these two Curbside Classics greeted me in the parking lot (the Pick-A-Part yard in Wilmington, on the North side of the PCH). Since I searched the entire Ford section, I know there weren’t any first gen Mustangs in the yard, and I doubt there were any mid sixties A-body parts. Based on that, these folks appear to use their Curbside Classics as daily (or perhaps weekend) drivers. It’s always a treat to see vehicles belonging to some kindred spirits sprinkled among newer automobiles.
If it wasn’t for the new cars in the background I would have sworn that the picture was taken in 1982.
Yep- Junkyard parking lots and nearby neighborhoods tend to maintain the same facade for many years. I often find the drive over provides a time machine effect- The closer I get, the more old school the streetscape.
Yep, the 2 local U-Picks in my area are pretty much unchanged in the last 30 years.

The Astro/Safari twins and the 1990s Civics are going to be roadside staples for decades to come.
For many years my 68 AMC Rebel Cross country (Wagon) and I would go to the pick and pull yards in St. Louis. It’s cool to see vintage rigs still being used for their intended purpose, not being trailer queens or garage furniture.
I used to go often with a friend of mine in his 72 ElCamino, even 10 years ago it was older than the majority of cars in the junkyard!
I’d guess over half the cars at my local Pull-A-Part are older than my daily driven Crown Vic 😀
You didn’t spot the thoroughly rusted 68 / 69 El Camino near the back fence?
I was there last week pinching parts off of a junked ’76 Monza for my own ’77. I’m going back this weekend.
Love the Monza- We’ll have to pose it with the Mustang II once we get both cars up and running.

Another local who’s hip to there being _TWO_ Pick-A-Part Junkyards in Wilmington off PCH , both are on Blinn , one is North , ‘tother is South of PCH .
Both often have very good oldies in them , last summer I found a Canadian 1956 Pontiac , this has the hart to find 261 C.I.D. I6 engine…..
Also , a few miles North of there at the Southern terminus of Lomita Blvd. is another largish Self Service Junkyard (‘Ecology’ IIRC) that always has interesting oldies in it , mostly hammered but always good for ” hard parts ” .
