The other day, a group of truckers from the Dutch river delta held their annual party and camping weekend in a local industrial area. ‘Enjoying nature’ was rather low on the campers’ priority list, you know. On a cloudy Saturday morning -the conditions for taking pictures were just perfect- I visited the camping site to admire all the colorful motorhomes. Mind you, all eight brands were present.
Last year, the Den Engelsen MAN dealership unveiled this special anniversary edition, a 640 DIN-hp TGX 4×2 tractor with a GX cab, the biggest tilt cab the truck maker can offer. Note the matching Michelin men.
2025 DAF XG 480 FT.
The brand new 4×2 tractor was accompanied by a senior co-worker, a 2004 DAF XF 95.480 FTG (that’s a DAF tractor chassis with a 6×2/4 drivetrain).
The Black Lodge.
2024 Volvo FH 6×2/4. Compared with a 4×2 drivetrain -setting the front axle’s weight rating aside- such an axle setup increases the tractor’s GVWR by 7,500 kg (16,535 lbs). The registered, legal maximum gross weight of this Volvo-in-black is 27 tonnes (59,525 lbs).
2019 Scania Torpedo 520 ST V8 6×2, the conversion from a cabover into a conventional was done by Vlastuin Truckopbouw.
A Volvo FH with a solid awning. The lower part of the grille is folded down, that’s where you can put your beer at an ideal grasp height, when camping.
2021 Scania R520 V8 4×2.
2021 Volvo FH 6×2/4.
2019 Scania R520 V8 6×2/4.
This is how you level a tractor for a good night’s rest.
2016 Mercedes-Benz Actros 4×2.
2022 DAF XF 480 FT, owned by Cor Huibers tree nurseries. The parking spot couldn’t be more apt.
2017 Iveco Stralis Hi-Way 4×2, I think it just happened to be parked there.
The Van Houten crew arrived in some striking Scania 4×2 tractors. On the left a 2023 R530 V8, on the right a 2019 S500. The S-cab comes with a flat floor.
That’s a trio of company classics, depicted between the exhaust stacks of the R530.
2023 Scania S500 6×2/4. The Henken company specializes in hauling bricks and other building materials, as indicated by their logo.
2023 Renault T High 4×2, also with an appropriate logo on its front and sides, given the owner’s last name.
2024 Ford F-Max 4×2 (the only drivetrain option) Select special edition.
2022 Scania R500 4×2 Bicentennial in the livery of the Gert Vlastuin hauling company.
Just a few classics were on display, one of them was this 1979 Scania L111 4×2 flatbed truck with an old-school load securing system, called ropes.
2024 MAN TGX 4×2.
2025 Scania R530 V8 6×2/4.
2024 DAF XG+ 480 FT, featuring the biggest factory tilt cab on the European market. Introduced four years ago, yet there’s still no real answer from the seven competitors.
2017 Volvo FH 6×2/4.
How about that, Van Dodeweerd from Dodewaard.
Their 2024 DAF XF 480 FTG is sitting next to a 2021 DAF with the exact same model designation and registration.
1995 Scania 143H-450 V8 Streamline 4×2.
2017 Iveco Stralis Hi-Way 6×2/4. Just like the other 2017 Stralis, it’s powered by an FPT Industrial Cursor 11 turbodiesel (indeed, with 11 liter displacement). FPT Industrial also supplies engines to Case IH and New Holland. Their Agri Monster Diesel is the V20, a 20.1 liter V8 with a maximum power output of 911 DIN-hp.
2021 DAF XF 480 FTG with the truck maker’s Super Space Cab.
2020 Scania R580 V8 next to a 2018 R450, both with a 6×2/4 drivetrain.
2018 Scania S650 V8 4×2. Mr. Crum likes to have some power on tap.
2014 Scania R450 4×2.
2024 Renault T High 4×2 low deck tractor.
2021 Volvo FH 4×2.
Ending the campsite tour with four previous-gen DAF XF tractors, all of them with a Super Space Cab.
Nice, roomy comfortable quiet trucks to drive, all of them though I.m guessing on the Ford I havent driven one but it has to be able to compete with the others for someone to drive it so I’d bet its ok.
Wow – that’s a big camping get-together!
My favorite color combination is that greenish 2019 Scania, but it’s hard to pick a favorite here. And in thinking about it, I can’t remember the last time I saw a black heavy truck here in the US… just something that’s highly unusual.
And I love that ’95 Scania too!
The Scania 3-series with a V8, like that 1995 tractor, has become a legendary classic. Plenty of 14.2 liter V8 music can be enjoyed on YouTube, just search for Scania 143.
My own favorite is the 2022 DAF XF owned by Cor Huibers tree nurseries. Such a refreshing color scheme and livery, very clever.
A beautiful selection of trucks. I like one more than the other; it’s very difficult to choose one in particular.
If I had to choose, I’d take the latest DAFs.
Nice fleet of trucks! Thanks.
What a great representation. That “Torpedo” is quite menacing…and I like the Twin Peaks reference….I’m surprised the front nameplates weren’t reversed… 🙂
The Scanias are not what they seem.
These seem really nice (says the guy who spends his days in fleet-spec day cab conventionals.
