I remember Mr Norm in the 60s and 70s. It was THE place to go in the midwest for performance Dodges. Nickey Chevrolet was the Chevy equivalent. I’m sure there were other Chicago dealers that made a name for themselves selling tweaked muscle cars in the Chicago area back then. Help me out, guys.
No catalogue of Dodge dealers in the US would be complete without a shot of Mr. Norm’s.
“Southland Dodge” in the “burgh”. Hard to tell from that angle but “Rt 51 aka Saw Mill Run Rd” kept getting closer and closer to the business throughout the late “60’s/70’s”.
They got the plain, ole, sedan in the showroom. Outside, the “spiffy, sporty”, rides!
San Leandro Dodge, looks to be 1972-3. Located just outside Oakland CA, I guess they knew the Bay area was import-focused, because most of the cars I see are Dodge’s captive imports from Mitsubishi… or maybe they are Plymouth Crickets (my memory of those are vague), but it’s not a Plymouth dealer…?
The Penrose Dodge building in Philadelphia still looks almost identical to how it did in the 1970s. Penrose Dodge went out of business in 1982, and the building has hosted numerous auto-related businesses since then. Currently it’s Hertz Car Sales showroom – but physically it’s still in the ’70s:

Wonder if “Hertz” sell one a car then reports it stolen?
A great Denver radio ad, for (long gone) Skyline Dodge:

Several of these have the original Dodge font on their signs. It was instantly recognizable, since very few fonts were drawn with a B pen in calligraphic terms. Most, including the newer italic Dodge font, are drawn with a C pen.
Having worked for Dodge and then Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge in the New York Regional office in the 1970’s, the dealers from this area are familiar to me. The sales manager at Ed Van Ness Motors in Wayne, NJ was a nice gentleman named Harry Hartke. I always remember him. Thanks for the memories. One dealership for which I cannot find a photo on the internet is Bridge Motors in The Bronx. My mother purchased our 1950 Dodge from them. The showroom was on The Grand Concourse around 185th Street. Service was elsewhere which I thin was on Jerome Avenue.
Nice pictures of Dodges I’d like to own .
