British, a car exported and needing left and right hand drive models. That vent would be where the steering column goes on the home market right hand drive models.
There, now I would hope that those clues give someone else enough to get it right.
From memory I think it might be the Daytona-lookalike Rover SD1.
As my son’s ’84 Mustang L has a dash that exact shade of beige, with the darker brown sort of slopped on the upper surfaces just like this one, I’m going to say this is a mid-80s Ford product… that’s as far as I can go, though.

I agree that’s too easy. But, with all due respect, you all got it wrong. It’s actually a 1961 Rambler Ambassador with the optional, dashboard-mounted hair dryer option.
