Mike Hayes just posted this shot to the Cohort, and naturally I was attracted to it, for several reasons: 1.) I’ve always had a thing for the ’56-’57 Corvette; 2.) I didn’t know there were any unrestored Corvette hulks still out there; and 3.) This one has a “driver”, who’s either wearing a balaclava or some other strange head covering, or possibly had his face obscured digitally.
So the mystery is twofold: what year is this ‘Vette, and why is this driver’s head blacked out?
Here’s a crop to help you with the second mystery. As to the first, I’m not sure there’s a good way to tell given what we have to go on. In fact, the visual differences were so minor, it’s not possible. The second? Your guess is as good as mine.

I think our Mystery Man is trespassing on someone else’s property, and snooping around someone’s stash of projects, but wants to remain anonymous for fear of being identified.
Trespassing and snooping, with photo evidence is an annoyingly popular on-line activity. Exploring abandoned buildings, ” barn -find” cars etc are all attractive activities. The problem is they usually go hand in hand with breaking the law. Buildings may be derelict and land may look unused but its not abandoned. Someone owns it, and probably aren’t keen to have explorers roam for liability or privacy reasons. People who participate in the hobby do so clandestinely and illegally.
This. I have to say though, that watching videos made by “Urban Explorers” are a guilty pleasure of mine; the production values for some are astounding. One good example is “The Proper People” on YT.

Now, to unravel the mystery: I covered over the driver’s face using Microsoft paint. The idea was to make him look like a ghost. That car has been sitting in the same spot for at least a decade, and it is really starting to remind me of a haunted house. I suppose I was partly inspired by an album cover from Seattle’s own Boss Martians. (Featuring the song “Tombstone Track.”) As for whether it’s a ’56 or a ’57? I spent way too much time trying to figure that out. No idea!
