William Garrett posted some of his more recent finds at the Cohort, so let’s take a ride along with him, starting with this ’66 Toronado that he found in this driveway in Sunnyvale, CA.
It’s always nice to see one of my favorites, in this case a ’63 Corvair Monza Spyder.
This ’59 Chevy Apache was found in Jacksonville, OR. That’s a lovely historic town in Southern Oregon.
A classic ’64 Chevy lowrider found in San Francisco.
Alfa Romeo Spider.
A ’79 Buick LeSabre, also in Sunnyvale.
A Brazilian Toyota Bandeirante LC double cab pickup. I’d take that in a heartbeat.
Last but not least, a 1960 Chevy Biscayne 2-door. Needs a two-tone paint job!
That Corvair Monza Spyder looks great with those cross hatched aftermarket wheels on it.
Were the immediate thing I didn’t like. The big Chevy has waay wrong wheels as well.
BTW- Bandeirante means “Patriot” in Portuguese (Brazil’s national language). I learned that on my trips to Brazil. Good array of cars!
My Dad surprised me by bringing home a similar Corvair Monza with a four speed in the late 1970’s. It was a copper brown color and in very good shape. My Dad did not like manual transmissions, and my brother and I already had our own cars. I guess that he bought it on a whim. These things were famous for throwing fanbelts, that was because people didn’t use the correct belt. Once the fan belt was replaced with the specified replacement it was no longer a problem. It was fun to drive, but I preferred my Coupe de Ville.

I’d have Landcruiser that model any day 4.2 NA diesel but I wouldnt have a twin cab as a gift, no load bed, exactly why modern utes are off my shopping list.
Here at CC we all know about the Corvair’s influence on European styling, including BMW, but the perspective of the photo of the black Monza really highlights how the rear quarter is almost identical to a BMW 2000 or 2800/3.0 CS.
Actor Glenn Ford appeared in a series of commercials promoting the 1978 Buick lineup. Reinforcing the iconic style and timelessness of Buick road wheels, every Buick shown, featured the stylish wheels. Even background Buicks, were fitted with the same wheels, in the various thirty second, and one minute ads. Every Buick looks outstanding, I will add.
I remember those “ad’s”. There was an awesome , blue “78 Skyhawk” at our local Buick dealer I lusted after for a long time!!

Visited my step son about 12 years ago when he was living in San Jose. Loved walking around his neighborhood, old cars are just so prevalent in the west.. Of course I was taking pics as I walked, 65 mustsngs, 64 Rivieras, 69 Jags behind chain link fences on and on… So very cool. We have our share of cool cars here in the northeast, but winter sucks and there’s nothing like Cali car culture… Now he’s living in Raleigh nc and plenty of year round oldies being driven down there also…
