What’s the deal with early Toronados being constantly transformed into all kinds of curious conversions? From six-wheelers to motorhomes to stretched bodies, and even shortened ones. Yes, I know GM’s Unified Powerplant Package had a lot to do with that flexibility, but I don’t see as many FWD ElDorados being given such treatments as often… if ever.
In any case, here’s yet one more such conversion, a motorhome camper thing caught in Arizona by Ralf K. And if I go by the color theme on this one, a creation that likely dates to the 1970s.

Online photos show that motorhome Toronados are a somewhat common theme (Airstream versions being my preferred choice). Further online search shows that this particular Toronado motorhome has sat in its current spot at least since 2018, looking just slightly worse today.
Cars and junk around it have changed with the seasons, but the Toronado itself looks like a permanent fixture. Seen from this view, I believe it started life as a 1967 model. The original UPP seems to still be in there, in one way or another, and would have made for a good hauler; after all, a version of it was found in the GMC Motorhome.
Unlike that GMC, I’m not sure about the driving dynamics on this particular conversion, which looks rather sketchy to me.
Ralf K got lucky (?) and found this creation with no junkers around it, capturing its profile in its entirety. Perhaps not pretty, nor admirable, but I doubt I’ll ever be able to forget it.

That is amazing. Sadly it is probably beyond saving. I wonder how it drives with three axles quite spread apart.
It looks like a very cool yard with plenty of other treasures about.
Came for this. Seems like a “tight turn” or even a K-Turn (or 37 Point Turn) would be quite a ‘Squealy/ Noisy’ affair.
Once upon a time, someone thought this was a good idea.
And it is a very good idea,🤯🤔
The matching racing stripe sold me on this. I’d hate to see what happens if this thing ever hit 88 MPH
That engine alone would be a collector’s item for anyone restoring a Toronado or even for a hotrodder resto-modding a lesser Olds. They could at least have had the sense to cover it
100% old school no doubt …..
I remember when home made campers were a thing, some were very well done, this looks pretty awful .
