When I see a Seville of that bustle back generation I always recall a friend’s crack as we walked by a new one with a young girl driver, window down and who seemed very proud of daddy’s new ride.
Buzz looked her and said “hey toots… what happened to the rest of your car?”
Always had a real soft spot for the bustle back Seville. Everybody loves the 1st gen Seville, but I wasnt around in 1975 when it was fresh and new. Detriot copied that midsize box so many times, I was sick of it. Was that a Seville, or a Regal, maybe a 5th Ave The bustle back, thats a unique car, vulgar like a proper Cadillac.
I dunno what it is about the styling of early 80s Cadillacs, I think the refreshed 1980 Deville(both sedan and coupe) is a much better looking car than the 77-79. It wears the boxy look so well. Same thing with the knife edged 79 Eldorado, such a crisp, good looking machine. Much better than the earlier “fat elvis” 71-78 cars.
And they were decent cars if you avoided the HT4100 or diesel. Sucks now that they made about a million HT4100 cars, 80 and 81 had the good engines. And sales were way off because of the recession, finding an 80 or 81 is kinda tough compared to the more common HT4100 cars.
Need someone to photo shop the rear of the Eldorado to the back of the Seville.
While you’re at it, might try the rear end of the the Buick Riviera or Olds Toronado of this time frame.
I have a hard time with the bustle back Seville.
Yes, the Eldo is a convertible. I once rented a bustle back Seville. There were four of us on a business trip to Beverly Hills so I needed a four-door rental. Our company accountant did not like my open ended expense account so I thought to save a few bucks I would rent something at Budget in BH. The Seville was the least expensive rental on the lot. At least my intentions were good. It was a very pleasant ride.
“The West Carson County Chapter of 1980’s Cadillac Owners will now come to order. I’d like to thank you all for coming to my house today.”
If that Eldo is a real convertible it’s the pick of the bunch.
That looks like it could be my home except I’d never let them sit outside.
I really don’t know why, but I love 80’s Cadillac’s.
