(first posted 4/9/2012) It’s not the vintage Subaru Loyale that caught my eyes (lots of those around), although it is a nice example, with a mild lift even. But my eyes instantly went to those distinctive wheels; I’d recognize those from a block away…do you?

From a Peugeot 505, I believe.
Seconded. Circa 1983ish.
Those are the wheels to have for a Brat – odd bolt pattern and they are one of the bigger wheels that fit.
Just about the only Peugeot part that hasn’t failed.
Oh yes, those are the 14 inch alloy wheels that did come on the Peugeot 505 for its entire run, 1980 to 1990 roughly. The more upscale versions of the 505 like the STI got even nicer 15 inch alloys. Because of the 4 bolt pattern on the ones pictured they can be used on (and only on) virtually any Peugeot, as well as select vintages of Subarus although I’m not sure which ones or how this happy coincidence occurred. I believe these wheels are referred to as Amils but I’m not sure why. They are commonly used to replace the steelies and improve the performance on Peugoet 504s and off the topic are giant pain to keep clean.

4×108 bolt pattern same as Hillman UK Ford Citroen Puegeot these are a favourite for Hillman Hunters etc while I have a set of 15″ steel Pug rims for my Minx.
Alfa also used the 4 x 108 pattern for many years…..as did the Fox body Mustang, the SAAB 900, and the current Ford Focus.
Nope…4×140, which was used on many older Subarus and some Peugeots. The spacing appears WAY too wide for 4×108.

They suit it very well actually.
I have to admit my lack of Subie knowlege here. Is that thing lifted? It seems to be about 2″ taller than an AMC Eagle.
I like it, the spare on the rack is a nice touch.
Nice looking wheels. They could use a little wash and polishing, but they do look nice. 🙂
The Loyale itself would be a rarity around here, especially in lifted 4wd trim. Hardly any left and 1st-gen Legacies (Legacys?) are no longer common either.

Yep, these are Pug 505 footwear. Dad used to have a STI model (specifically the 1983 Silver Edition) with the 15 inch alloys. They actually look pretty good on a Subie.
I wasn’t looking all that closely at the car and thought it was a 504 wagon that had received a bit of a lift to the suspension.
When I saw it wasn’t a Peugeot but a Subaru, I thought someone had confused a set of French wheels and German (BMW?) wheels.

Knew they were Peugeot wheels, not because of the style, but because when I was looking for aftermarket mag wheels for my 85 Subaru RX AWD turbo… The only car company that had a WIDE bolt pattern, that was interchangeable with my Subie was Peugeot.
This was back in 1995, and the chance of finding snazzy rims, was slim. The only company that sold aftermarket alloy wheels for the old 1980-93 Subarus was a company called Mangels.
