We’ve had a lot more sunshine than usual this winter, which is a mixed blessing. I actually prefer shooting cars under the soft cover of an overcast sky, but you take what you get. And in this case, it’s a nicely-preserved big Blazer, a vehicle that has a following, but its numbers are obviously shrinking. This one is likely to be around for a while yet.
I’ll let you pin down the year as best as possible, but obviously it’s pretty late in its almost twenty-year lifespan.
Among other things, I hate having my shadow in the shots on sunny days, but sometimes it’s almost impossible. I’m saluting this fine old veteran.
Not 100% certain, but the dual horizontal headlights peg this one as a 1987/later model. Those better in the know can weigh in for clarification! 🙂
Grille/headlight combo is 1989-1991.
I can just barely make out the hood ornament, but it looks like this example was originally equipped with the 6.2L diesel as well.

One of the neater K5 variants I never knew about at the time, was the very low volume Blazer Chalet and GMC Jimmy Casa Grande sold in 1976 and 1977. It looks strange at first, but I find the concept very appealing.

I never knew about these until fairly recently, when I saw one listed for sale (not locally, unfortunately). Completely neat – inside and out.
This is the epitome of the old-school body-on-frame SUV. My 2011 Ford Ranger mimics the style well with its camper shell. 2-doors will do it the best.
I had an ’82 K5 Blazer. Most trouble free vehicle I’ve ever had over the almost 4 years I had it. A piece of inside trim fell off day one. One headlight, and a battery at 2 years. That’s it. The weakish 305 made it slowwwww, but not as slow as the Mitsubishi 2.6L in the Caravan that replaced it.
I cannot remember the last time I saw one of these newer ones. It is interesting how Ford was into the third generation of Bronco before these were replaced. But then I’ll bet there are few vehicles with better parts support today than these.
I knew this generation of Blazer as the M-1009. They were just OK as MP vehicles. I seem to recall handling was not a strong point. . .
