I’m always on the lookout for small cars with big trailers, and I’ve shared some zingers with you. Here’s my latest find.
Yeah, but I highly doubt the trailer is actually hitched to the stang. Especially with that big ole pickemup. in the driveway.
But maybe you knew all that!
Nice find and yes, the Mustang is not actually hitched. In Salem, OR a few years back I did see a Fox Body Mustang towing a small trailer carrying garbage cans full of yard waste. Only time I’ve seen a Mustang towing anything.
In early 70s North Dakota a friend used a Mustang to tow water skiers in roadside drainage ditches.
Some people in the US do use small utility trailers instead of trucks, on Saturday I was behind a Honda CR-V towing a load of fencing. Ironically I was driving my 1/2 ton pickup to Lowe’s at the time.
At least as of 2019, the Ford Mustang was one of the few passenger cars sold in the US that was rated to tow AT ALL.
At a 1000 lb rating, that’s probably less than the pictured double-axle cargo trailer weighs empty.
But still, it’s enough for a single PWC, or a small fishing boat, or a 5×8 utility trailer loaded with building materials!
The Volvo S90 T6 is (or was until recently) rated to tow 4,600 lbs, even in the US!
A couple of years back on a Mustang forum there was a big brouhaha about trailer towing. Some said that they thought that it was dorky to use a Mustang to tow. Others said that they used them to tow their jet skis. motorcycles and even small boats. I’ve seen Miatas pulling small trailers carrying extra track type performance tires to the autocross or track event. No question that a Mustang has the power but with the short wheelbase you’d have to be careful about the trailer length. Pull a small pop up camper, why not? Motorcycles tow things.
My 06 Matrix is rated at 1,500. That’s a bit over half the weight of the car. I have a trailer hitch but I’ve never used it.
