I was in the mood for something a bit out of the ordinary when I was perusing the CC Cohort. And I found it, with these shots of a chopped and otherwise modified 1937 Oldsmobile, posted by William Rubano. How’d you like to see this glaring at you in your rear view mirror?
I’m old enough to remember when cars like this were a common sight. Kids would find an old car behind someone’s barn and take a torch to it, with high hopes of creating a slick and polished hot rod, but that all-too often ended up never fulfilled. Better yet were the ones whose aspirations were more modest and just wanted to have some fun; something to stick in folks faces: “I don’t care what you think!” This one clearly falls into the latter ranks, or at least ended up that way.
Of course, this might also be a very self-conscious contemporary creation. Or at least a revived old one turned into one. It’s cool, in any case. And a lot more so nowadays than the overly-slick and polished rods that it may have once started out to be.
