Let’s follow up on last week’s post showing my photo finds at Desert Valley Auto Parts in Arizona. Wandering through the lot, you’ll find station wagons scattered all over the place. Near the entrance are a few woody wagons on display. This 1949-51 Ford is worse for wear, with an AMC Cross Country Rambler right in front.
A pair of 1950s Buick Woodies nearby.Further away is this 1958 Buick Special Estate Wagon, where wood is replaced by chrome.Arguably, the beginning era for the modern crossovers; the AMC Eagle Wagon.Another AMC, not sure if the scooter was an accessory? And here’s the Eagle’s side view.Land Rover SWB. Kind of a wagon.Pair of International Scouts. Wagon-ish…A 1970s Volvo 145 Wagon.Mercedes 300TD, what many aspired to back then…And a Ford Fairmont, what you bought instead.1956 Dodge wagon, 2nd one, in red, next to other Dodges.1950 Plymouth, a trendsetter. And a 1956 Chevrolet.
Next week we’ll finish up with finds that are almost restorable.
Thanks for another glimpse of what is out there. Interesting how the sun destroyed the wood along with the tires. Here in the Northeast, the wood would have rotted and the metal would rot from the ground up. Out in the desert the sun destroys the metal from the top down.
The Volvo 145 is from the sixties – the split rear side window was removed in 1970. I think the the rims are from a 240 series.
This place looks amazing .

As always the lack of deep corrosion is incredible. I feel like I could show up with a set of wheels and drive that Land Rover out of there.
