Great collection! I decided to look up the modern location of all of these, and just one is still a Chrysler dealer. The site of Newburgh Park Motors is now Hudson Valley Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep… unclear if the building is the same (if it is, it’s been heavily modified).
The site of Bridge Chrysler-Plymouth is now a Mazda dealership, though the building has been replaced.
For all of the other six, the buildings are still standing. Two buildings are currently used cars dealers, one is an auto body shop, one’s a retail store, one is a massage place, and one is vacant.
On a trip from Nebraska to Okaboji in Iowa. Driving through the small towns many buildings Eeen repurposed or vacant STILL had the old glass fronts of the car dealerships of the 50’s. It’s a shame more cities can’t recreate the ‘downtown’ feel of the 40’s & 50’s the architecture the painted logos on old brick warehouses. Even if ‘Ford’ or ‘Butternut Coffee’ doesn’t exist in these buildings the artwork and architecture should be saved or recreated. (Have laws on place like they do for old Victorian houses etc)
I love all of these, but especially the one from Village where the salesman is standing by the new, ’75 Cordoba. I’ll bet many dealers and salespersons were thrilled to have this attractive personal luxury car to both sell and generate showroom traffic.
It was interesting to see the sign that had Imperial as a separate brand. Trying to think which brands made it the pentastar. Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, I guess Imperial. De Soto? Too early for Jeep! Actually, it’s just a logo with no reference to the number of brands. Had to look it up.
I live about a half hour from Newburgh, surprised to see all the little Plymouth cricket import cars at newburgh park Motors that have virtually disappeared off the face of the earth.. I remember them but they were really toss aways…!!! Looks like the time period I was looking for my first new car and opted for a 71 pinto with a four speed. Good little car.
Dodge dealers definitely got the better end of that deal with the Colt.
