The movie house is showing “The Colossus of Rhodes” which was released in the US in Dec, 1961. Due the lack of snow, could be spring of 1962.
Looks to be a Jeep in front of the Falcon. However, cannot make out the white car in front of the Jeep. Suspect it’s a ’62 Dodge Polara or Plymouth Fury. Open to suggestions.
I’m equally puzzled. It looks Corvairish but the taillights aren’t right, and it has a Euro country oval next to the plate. Type 3 Ghia? Not quite right. Some BMW and Glas models have a similar body but fin-type taillights.
There’s so much pixelation it’s hard to tell. My guess from the roofline was 2 door Valiant.
1962 Plymouth Sport Fury.
I am going for gen 1 Corvair. There looks to be a vent panel under the bumper, and I think it had several small decals around the taillights that further distorted the already distorted image.
Whatever it was, having a standoff with a road grader is a losing proposition.
Great gallery, Rich, lot’s of eye candy.
Having taken another look, I agree with you. I thought I was seeing three taillights per side, but that was the pixelation.
I love the DKW in Cheyenne! Technically, the town shown as Shasta is called Mount Shasta, or Mount Shasta City, which is actually different than Shasta (or Old Shasta) which is nearby but not the same.
Thanks. I updated the text, and that DKW in Cheyenne is quite an attraction.
Yes, interesting juxtaposition of wildly differing shapes, sizes, and headlight placements of the vehicles in line with the DKW — the parked 1952-54 Ford wagon, the DKW, the yellow 1958-59 Chevy pickup, the 1960 Pontiac, and then the parked 1957 Plymouth.
If you keep on with the annoying leftist ads, I’m out!
We do not have any control over what specific ads are served to you. Sorry.
I think he means that the text of the story is compressed to a column to the left that is one third or one fourth the width of the page. I experience this on my Apple table and Apple IMac.
Give me a email address and I’ll shoot you a screen print
Yes, some others have noticed that occasionally. It seems to be a random and relatively infrequent issue. My recommendation is to always restart your device or otherwise clear its cache memory. It does not seem to be anything we fix. It’s probably an artifact of our ad service acting weird under certain conditions.
I’ve been getting Amazon ads for the Melania movie…pretty sure that wouldn’t be Paul’s top pick.
You bet!
Ha, same — kept interrupting my viewing pleasure of CC on my phone today! Her flying saucer hat is so weird.
Leftist? OMG, where were such things? I don’t see many ads anymore as I decided to try out ad lite which does make a difference compared to nothing. As for the page shrinking off to the left that happens infrequently on my desktop computer as I, very rarely, use a cell phone.
Here are some brief color videos of NYC traffic and pedestrians in the early 1950s at Getty Images. I rack up a half dozen and play them full-screen. Wonderful period history. (If this post is out of line please forgive me.)

The first picture from Kalispell, Montana has a number of very early 1950s and late 1940s cars in it, with the surprise of a 1954 Cadillac. It has a fading brownish 1947 or 1948 Ford sedan that brings back a lot of warm memories. My daily transportation for 27 years was a 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Tudor flathead V-8 sedan, about rhe nicest and most comfortable-riding car that I ever owned. Not particularly pretty body-lines, but as long as you kept after the things old Henry told you in the owner’s manual, with Columbia Overdrive you were good to go just about anywhere on any road. And sitting taller the way that it did was a huge visibility advantage. Best A.M. radio I’ve EVER encountered! But vacuum windshield wipers leave something to be desired on your way up a long hill. Srill, a car I woukd own again, if I could.
Very minor correction regarding the Denver photo. It’s not Broadway Street, it’s simply…..Broadway. The Denver Tramway trolley buses and the Burlington Denver Zephyr billboard both help date this to late 40s or early 50s, as the trolley buses were replaced with diesels in 1955, and the original Denver Zephyr re-equipped as the Domeliner Denver Zephyr in 1956.
As to Cheyenne, Wyoming, hard to imagine the place with only one pickup truck visible!
When downtown, and in town, were living places.
Mount Shasta Blvd. and Lake. Hotel now lofts and next building up, across the street, still there in original condition it looks like.
LOVE THESE! Americana and what memories!
