I found this yesterday doing some searches for Swiss Alpine pass photos. I can’t readily attribute this shot since I downloaded it before taking note, but it caught my attention given that this is obviously not a factory job. I suspect Carmine will know…Or are big Caddies so popular in Switzerland that they have their own conversion shops?

Nice how the roadbed itself appears to be bone-dry between those two walls of snow. If we’d had snow removal that effective when I lived in Wisconsin, I’d still be there.
Really! I don’t see any evidence of road salt either. If we got hit with a tenth of that much snow, my street would be plugged for a week.
Looks like the sun’s gotten to the roadbed and the snow has melted a bit. I remember such things from my time in college, up in Houghton, Michigan.

Any reference to OHMSS makes my day. It was the first movie i thought of when I saw this pic. How awesome was Tracy driving her Cougar in the Swiss snow? (Hmmm, was Tracy the driver? It’s been a while.)
Could be a Unimog with the thrower attachment. Most any Truck, Skid Steer or Wheel Loader with 40HP+ of attachment power can be fitted with a large thrower that will clear a 15ft berm.
She was rather well endowed in the trunk but when she took her top off, I knew I was in love.

Probably a classic hobby vehicle and insured as such. That often means a limited (low) yearly mileage, so fuel consumption doesn’t matter that much. And the Swiss are rich, Oprah knows all about it.
US $7.38 per gallon.
A quick search of the web indicates about $7.35 / US gallon. The most expensive in Europe is Norway – equivalent of $9.95.
Kuwait? 85 cents.
These were aftermarket jobs done here in the US, there were 2 companies doing them at the “peak”. I can’t recall the name of the companies, I think Hess & Eisenhardt was one of them.
Was American Sunroof the other company? I know they did some sunroof and t-top work, I believe they also did convertibles.
I see this is a Fleetwood coupe instead of the more common Coupe deVille.
I agree with Brandon. The road was plowed some time before the photo was taken. The sun (and possibly the wind) has dried it out. A true convertible man. Top down, regardless of the temperature as long as it is dry.
When I saw the headline, I was hoping it was Diana Rigg in her red convertible Cougar in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” – the BEST Bond movie before “Casino Royale” of several years ago!

I see another poster felt the Bond allure of this pic. Agreed, best of the original Bond movies. (spoiler alert…35 years later, is that okay?) I mean he gets friggin married! And George Lazenby wears a kilt while getting seduced by a resort full of European hotties. And they drive a Cougar through snow in Switzerland! Can’t get much better than that.
BTW, that’s a ’90s luxobarge Cadillac I would buy in a heartbeat. And I am so not that demo. (Last 3 cars-Civic, Prius, Matrix.) But what a sweet ride. Did you get more pics?

The Cougar was awesome.
OHMSS has become better over time, history has treated it more kindly, but its not as good as the Connery movies. Less campy than the Moore movies though.
Not as good as the Connery movies? Ummm… I respectfully disagree – OHMSS is much better, although “From Russia With Love” was the best Connery movie. I suppose I could call it a tie between those two.
For the record, when I saw OHMSS in December 1969, I realized it was an outstanding movie even back then. It was the Bond film most true to the book.
The rest? Except for “For Your Eyes Only” and perhaps “Goldeneye”, all the rest were so-so.
With me, one bad, ill-shot scene ruined “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball”.
I’m so glad that I’m not the only one that thinks that OHMSS is one of the best Bond movies – all my friends look at my strangely when I say that. Such a shame that Lazenby chose not to do more Bond movies.
That movie is what I immediately thought of too when I saw this shot. Although I must politely disagree as to that being the best Bond film.
I’m assuming it was converted in the US because it doesn’t have the official Cadillac export lighting which includes amber sections in the main taillights, backup lights and rear fog light in the bumper and modified license plate area.
