Chrysler must have built lots of cars like the 13th Laser. When my mother special-ordered an 80 Dodge Omni, it must have been the 13th vehicle on at least three trucks. After it was missing from the third truck that it was supposed to be on the salesman said they could no longer honor the price they had agreed to. She cancelled the order and bought a Horizon off the lot at the nearby ChryPly dealer.
So it had to have been a 13th vehicle like this one. Because dealers never lie, do they?
Based upon the wheel design, these look like ’85s.
I thought the Daytonas looked their best in Chrysler’s ‘pizza’ wheels and the later ‘pumper’ design. They had attractive seating.

I kind of disdained these cars and the Geo Storm. Car magazines back then were calling these what the Camaro etc. should have been. But they were cool looking if way over heavy on frontal overhang (like the Monte SS then.) The last one I ever saw was on my morning commute about 4 years ago. Looked fine. Wonder if it finally quit.
I think that year there was a Chrysler Laser also. It looked a bit like these Daytonas, but there were very few buyers. Perhaps it was on the same chassis, but I can’t recall. A car sales guy I knew had one for a while.
Yes, and in fact my sister bought a used one in the late 1990s. It was a great car for about a year until the transmission somehow tore itself apart as she was driving down I-95.
The dealer offered up a Chrysler Lazer to my Mother while they were doing warranty work on her Cordoba. As the loaner was a 5 speed manual she was happy to swap cars with me; giving me the almost new Lazer to drive.
I thought the 2.2 non turbo fuel injected engine and 5 speed manual to be a pleasant combination. If you didn’t try to be “Speed Racer” it shifted fine; watching the tachometer and rowing the gear box made the car more than adequate in city driving.
It’s factory A/C was strong enough to tame the heat & humidity that soaks New Orleans in July.
The exterior color was a light gold/beige metallic with light brown cloth seats. A most pleasing color combo!
The dealer had to call our home number 3 times to get us to bring back their loaner and pick up Mom’s Cordoba. I was in no hurry to surrender the Chrysler Lazer!
I had a friend back in the day with an 85 Lazer turbo. It was reasonably quick for the times. Black with an orange stripe and pizza wheels. I thought it was a sharp looking car. I still think they are cool looking. I can’t imagine how long it has been since I’ve seen one.
My ex-wife got a left over ’86 Chrysler Laser XT with a 2.5 and an automatic as the ’87 cars were filling the lots. It had enough power, got great gas mileage, comfortable to drive long distance and a lot of utility with the hatchback. Very minor cosmetic differences between the Chrysler and the Dodge mainly in the taillights and the rear spoilers.
The Laser drove exactly like my ’89 LeBaron Coupe I got years later and shared an insane number of parts including dashboards, front seats etc. Both of them good cars. Been years since I’ve seen a Daytona/Laser or a LeBaron Coupe. LeBaron convertibles are still around but not the hardtops. Rust was doing a number on my LeBaron, I imagine most of the in the salt belt met the same fate.
Still a fan of the G-Bodies. Had a red, ’87 Daytona Turbo Z picture tacked up on my wall when I was an adolescent. The first ones (like these) are also now among my favorites. I still don’t understand the lack of love for these.
That thirteenth dude is going to be disappointed, there’s only twelve cars on the truck. 🙂 Maybe he’ll get sold a truck instead…

This t-top Daytona is truly a stunner. Wow. I would want this in my teenage fantasy garage.

The Laser mixed and matched the available equipment differently from Dodge. No Turbo Z equivalent. Dropped when Chrysler got a proper Lebaron coupe.

If you want to call them Daytonas. No fun without the 426 under the hood. Got to ride in one of those winged bastards.
