I love my CC, but I lead a relatively sedentary lifestyle so I try to walk around as much as I can. One benefit to this is the opportunity to capture CCs in action. While perusing my pics, I’ve found a bunch of classics in motion (or stuck in congestion) so I’m going to be posting the occasional set in honour of them. First up is a 1962 Buick Electra. I see this one in use occasionally and it is an exceedingly handsome addition to Melbourne’s roads. It’s still in left-hand drive, which is now fully registerable on our RHD roads, but if (when) I get a US CC its going to be a right-hooker. That’s just me.
I was literally chasing after this 1968 Cadillac and it still frustrates me that I couldn’t get the front edge of the car in the shot. We’ve covered this model in white and in a gnarly black as well. I could go on forever about this shape (and I will when I find one for a full Curbside Classic profile), but suffice to say the 1967/68 Cadillacs are among the most handsome bodies to have ever graced the tarmac. Ever.
I take my pics on a HTC smartphone. It’s taken me a while to master the delay between pressing the shutter-release button and the ‘shutter’ actually ‘releasing’. And sometimes the result has been shots like this. Still, I think it’s managed to capture this customised 1946 Cadillac Sedan ‘expressionistically’, so I’m going to pretend this cropping was deliberate. This specific model hasn’t had coverage on CC, but you’ll find a similarly shaped 1941 sedan here.
I don’t see many US GM cars driving over here, and when I do I get the same buzz as seeing a Euroxotic. Anyway, that’s what The General has brought me for now. Stay tuned for further episodes of In Motion Classics.
That first Buick photo is absolutely gorgeous. Love how the color of the sky echoes that of the paint.
I got my license on my Dad’s ’62 401 CID Buick LeSabre, way back in 1970. Same as the ’62 Buick Electra in the photo but not quite as fancy. 4-door pillarless sedan, black exterior with silver interior. It was a beautiful, powerful reliable car, and nicely built, too. I remember driving it down the Garden State Parkway at 90 MPH, and it wasn’t breathing hard.

Nice pics Don, I never saw many US classics in OZ yet here in Hawkes Bays NZ they are just part of traffic I see all day every day, however getting pics is more difficult when driving in traffic with a 18 speed manual and a 24 metre long vehicle combination, I keep a camera in the cab though and got some shots of some oldies the other night while stuck at a T junction a couple of old Chevs being used as dailies must download soon,
I love the Buick! I got an occasional ride in a 62 LeSabre sedan in that color (inside and out) when I was a kid. It belonged to a co-worker of my dad. It perplexed me, as a little kid, how a big, burly ex-WWII bomber pilot could let his wife talk him into a pink car. But I have now been married long enough to know how that works. 🙂 And I really like that color now.
All wonderful pictures. The cropped Cadillac gives the perception of speed which I think adds to its effect (affect?) rather than being a distraction.
However, that Buick is as flawless as can be. The lucky guy driving it ought to be smiling.
Hah! You must be really close by, Don. I’m currently within 100 ft of where the 68 convertible was spotted and know the other locations very well. Yep, I’ve seen the Buick a few times and the 46 was at Mornington a few years back. A black 67 Sixty Special, RHD registered FHM 380, was about here for years but I’ve not seen it recently – there was a car!

I just had a look and although I saw the 46 Cadillac at Mornington this year I didn’t take a photo because I’d shot it before and cars were starting to leave so I was in a big hurry. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the Buick too. I only half-recognise the locations though!

I’ve seen a 59 Fleetwood, 80’s Firebird, several Stingray Corvettes, tri-fives, some FWD Eldorados… All over the place.
But I can never identify the places where the pics are taken.
