The CC Clue has fallen by the wayside. Why? Mostly two reasons: I don’t work in my office regularly these days, cranking out a CC for the next day, and topping that off with a Clue. I’ve been too bust with other work for that luxury. But I am back to my old routine today, thanks to a blistering 105 degree (40 C) day, and a window air conditioner we were finally forced to get thanks to the second hot summer in a row. The other reason?
It’s hard to get the clue just right, in terms of being too easy or too hard. It seems like most of them were being guessed instantly,a combination of the writer’s making them too obvious or our sleuths being too good. But today we’ll give it another shot, and see how it goes. Do you miss the Clue much?
Miss the clue but haven’t the faintest idea what this is. Also, I do not consider it sporting to Google to search for what it might be.

Oh, yeah. The clue thing. Usually they’re a source of consternation for me because I often get them wrong. But how else ya gonna learn. They have my vote.

My guess is ’59 Pontiac.
I like the clue pictures and the QOTD and the theme weeks, but I don’t think they need to be specifically scheduled.
If there is a good clue picture, use it, but don’t force features if they aren’t fun, just to fit an artificial pattern.

1959 Pontiac. So iconic. Once, several years ago, I was in some car when we went to pick up a friend of a friend. At the back of the driveway, I could see just the top of the rear fender. Just that little rabbit ear top.
Me: “’59 Pontiac!”.
Friend: “How did you know that?”
And I miss the clues.

I’m going with ’59 Pontiac. There was something VERY similar on the ’61 Tempest front end, but it’s not quite the same as this.

My first reaction was a ’59 Pontiac also, the start of the glory years!
I like the clue as well.
This one was easy for me. For one thing I saw the follow up article first (spoiler alert!) but I would have gotten it any way. My father owned a ’59 Catalina 2-door hardtop – Amethyst Sunset (a frosty purple) with a white top (small as it was). He bought the car new the year before I was born. My first automotive memories are coming ‘face-to-face’ with that grille and the frightening (to a toddler’s eyes anyway) rear end with the finlets and skegs.
The replacement for the ’59 was a ’64 Catalina, again 2-door hardtop, with the Ventura trim package. The paint was a beautiful blue – almost turquois. I’ll bet my mother had a lot to do with that color selection. I remember thinking the boomerang tail lights were much more ‘serene’ than the arrangement on the ’59. No, I wouldn’t have used the word ‘serene’ back then.

That was my first guess too.
But after reading the responses I’m now in the ’59 Pontiac camp. The P1800 grille shell doesn’t have any creases in it, nor is the grille so deeply inset.
I missed the clue posts, because I’m still hoping to be the first to correctly guess one. I think I’m good being able to ID many cars from just a roofline or a single headlight or taillight, but the CC clue always stumps me.

sometimes i get the brand , I knew this was a Pontiac.
