As promised, last Saturday a few hearty souls gathered for the Palos Verdes car Show at 7:30 in the GD morning (including myself and a fellow CC contributor).
The show included Mustangs, Camaros and ’57 Nomad wagons, but I passed on these mainstream offerings. Instead, I looked for the unique, rare, or outstanding. As these snippets show, there were at least a few present. I’ve scheduled a full report for tomorrow, but enjoy this taste of the more off beat offerings.
Should we identify the clues? I see Amphicar, Malibu, Impala… a Duesenberg?
Looking forward to it
Is that a Ford RS200?
Definitely is an RS200
I wonder if that steeply-raked looking A pillar on the Mercedes is a 300SL? No. 15 looks like a Porsche Carrera GT, no. 1 a Chrysler or Cadillac, no. 7 possibly an Aston, no. 8 I will be impressed if anyone can guess!
1974 Chevelle, part of the brown car club..
Sorry, no Chevelles or Malibus in this collection.
Then it’s a brown El Camino
Gotta be an Elky then, OR a GMC Sprint.
Wow, an RS200, color me impressed! As one that lives and breathes all things Group B, that’s one I would love to have in the stable…
Nice collage!
The Amphicar was another example of the many unique and creative German car designs to emerge in the late 50s and early 60s.
Shame that it’s styling was already somewhat dated when introduced.
That’s quite a dashboard on six
Texan beat me to the ’74 Chevelle but I think I see a ’68 Grand Prix, ’67-’72 Chevy truck, possibly a ’66-’70 Eldorado(?), ’66-7 Pontiac intermediate, and a ’71 Chevrolet with incorrect wire covers… Cool.
The red car being identified as an Impala looks to me like a 1969 or 1970 Mercury Monterey.
Number 8 looks like an old MACK truck.
Mr. Bill
Specifically, an old fire truck.
That dash reminds me so much of my old 230SL that it must be a Mercedes. And the upper corner car is a 1949 Dodge.
No. 13 could be a ’66 or ’67 Nova, No. 14 has early 50s GM sedan written all over it, and I do believe Mr. Bill could be right about No. 16 — too much front overhang for GM, but in keeping with “King of Overhang” Ford at the time.
No. 1 is a ’50 or so Dodge, and I think No. 2 might be a 1969 Pontiac Bonneville. I don’t think No. 12 has a steep enough windshield rake to be a ’67-’70 Eldo.
16 looks mid 70s to me…chrysler?
Looking at the others, # 12 I believe is a 67- 70 era El Dorado.
# 2 is definitely a ’69 Pontiac (Bonneville) due to the presence of the lower body moulding.
# 14 is definitely one of GM’s larger bodied vehicles and I’m going to go ahead and say an early 50’s Cadillac.
# 1 is definitely a Dodge and possibly a Wayfarer.
Mr. Bill aka Avantiguy
Ahh, I missed it! I didn’t realize the meet was part of a bigger car show. Let me know if you guys do it again, and I’ll try.
3rd row, 3rd column. Is that Larry Wood’s Nash?!
Sorry to miss this month’s show Dave. I was going to go with my Dad but he and Mom got stuck at LAX for hours the day before (TSA shooting) and it would have been too much. You can always count on a Gullwing or two at PV. I was surprised to see so many El Caminos then remembered Chevy was the honored marque last week.
I like the PV show because it’s close and medium sized. I went regularly to the original Cars & Coffee, the one at Crystal Cove, and went a few times to the Irvine location after it moved.
The CC location was spectacular and the drive along the coast to get there heavenly. Irvine is a long haul and you need to get there by 6:30 (!) nowadays to get a good parking space. These smaller shows started popping up a few years back and I like them better.
There really needs to be a moratorium on the Torq Thrust Ds, way over used if you ask me.
