I got an email from a reader last night with an attached shot of a Lexus SUV with a wreath attached to its front, asking if this was still a common thing. It reminded me that I’d seen this ’75 Pontiac LeMans Safari wagon a few days earlier with this wreath, so I just went back to it to shoot is for our Christmas and holiday greeting to all of you.
I haven’t noticed any other cars with wreaths on their noses, but that’s not to say there aren’t any. Is this still a thing in your part of the world?
We featured this rare colonnade wagon back in 2016, but it’s nice to see it still sitting here, adding a bit more patina as the years go by, just like we all are.
Here’s hoping your holiday plans haven’t been disrupted by the latest pandemic variant.
This wagon features hand outlines of their kids at various ages. Family; that’s what the holidays are all about.
Undoubtedly quite a few family memories were made in this one. Hopefully you’ll make some new ones over the holidays.

Rare indeed with apparent strong family ties predating the window stick figures. Love the west coast patina and mid 1970’s period GM blue – same as my brother’s 1974 Pontiac Ventura deadly sin.

I haven’t seen the full wreath treatment too often, but what I do see constantly this time of year are the clip-on reindeer antlers (with or more often without the grill-mounted red nose). Frankly, they make me a bit uncomfortable because I can’t help but think about the noise they must make once the vehicle gets up to any kind of speed.
The handprints on the rear hatch of the Pontiac wagon are kind of cute. I’d prefer them to the stick-figure family things that you still see often. Usually on the same cars that have the reindeer antlers this time of year.
Oh well, to each their own.

Wreaths on the front end, even little Xmas lights woven through the roof racks, and those clip on reindeer antlers are pretty common around here. Maybe I’ll do that next year.

Only spotted two wreaths this year on a couple of big rigs. Here in the Minneapolis metro I’ve probably seen a couple wreaths per year over the last twenty some years. They seem to have been more common before then. I’m guessing owners find out the hard way after driving just a few weeks that a wreath collects all road salt and sand and scratches up their grill. Hats off to Jeff Sun as I did spot one of those Rudolph conversion kits last week.
That Safari Wagon side profile looks rather nice. Even more so without those olympic regulation 5 mph diving board/ bumpers. Those gold side mirrors give off a subtle WRX STI vibe.
This Pontiac has to be the quintessential curbside classic. Great find.

This week, I saw a wreath on a PT Cruiser. Like that Pontiac, it had “sort of” a NOSE to put the wreath on; and that’s the kind of thing that sets apart a lot of PT Cruiser owners from the run-of-the-mill.

Merry Christmas, Paul, all your writers and editors, and followers! We do have the occasional wreath-car (passed one yesterday) in the Northeast US. Here’s an archival family photo, when Dad had just purchased his first collector car, a 1927 Hudson Super Six Brougham. He was so excited to get it on the road that he took it down into town to buy the tree for Christmas 1971. He sent this Polaroid to me in Italy, where I was half-way through my senior college year. I have always treasured it.
