How many Peugeot 505 wagons are still daily drivers in your town? There’s at least two here, if the one I caught a couple of years ago is still at it (probably so, given its devoted driver). And there’s this one I caught in the intersection of Friendly Street and W. 28th Avenue, while on our walk.

CC 1989 Peugeot 505 Wagon: The Last of the World’s Greatest Wagons
There`s one in blue around my house, for what I remember is also a late 80s. If I can get it I´ll send a pic. They were rare here, given the outrageous import taxes in Uruguay. It`s probably Argentinian made, with a lower grade finish, manual gearbox and, of course, no US bumpers, lights and other things.
There’s one at Bayview Hights on the Nth Beaches of Sydney, red and runs very well, one old lady driver who has had it serviced regularly since new.

Huge inside, excellent seats, awesome suspension system…..but all too often terminally unreliable in the USA.
Even today it amazes me that many French (and Italian) cars that are so well thought of in Europe cope so poorly with American rules and regulations.
My local 505 wagon is this ’85 model below, which I photographed on the go about 2 years ago. Since then, I’ve figured out where it lives, and somewhat not surprisingly it lives with a few other French cars, including another 505 (sedan), as well a Citroen DS.
It seems to be a safe bet that a big chunk of America’s remaining Peugeots share a driveway with other Peugeots. They seem to go well together in pairs.
I may have the last 87 Volkswagen Quantum Station Wagon still on the road. I am the original titled owner and it was custom ordered with all the bells and whistles. I have taken care of “Darth”, as I call the car as he is all black. He is 243,000 original miles and I am looking to find him a new home with someone who will love him and care for him as I have done. My age has caught up with me along with arthritis and worn out parts of me. Darth and I have been all over the eastern part of the country. He has a five speed tranny, original clutch, engine, and everything else. Being garaged since 1999, has helped to preserve him. Actually, he is in better shape than I am…lol. I am looking for someone who will take care of him as I have done. I have extensive service records, and according to my mechanic, I have the thickest file folder on any car he has worked on. My mechanic closed his business last year but I am one of a few customers that he takes care of. The phot was taken last August when I detailed Darth for a German Car show in Cincy.l
If that’s a Syncro your car would likely do well on BringATrailer or at the very least benefit from advertising on both Audi and VW forums that target the older versions. While there are others still around (I know of one around here), they are quite rare and in some demand from fans of them. Even if it’s just a FWD version it’s a good Radwood contender too and they are in the process of launching their own auction site right now as well.
It is FWD. Can you give me more information on the new site being launched? Also, what is a Radwood?

Check out Radwood.com, it started as sort of a carshow thing where they’d have shows around the country but completely focused on 1980’s and 1990’s stuff. Some exotic but much just as likely to be normal but very well preserved cars, there’s a section on the site with photos from various shows.
I think our own Ed Snitkoff was planning on displaying his 1986 Ford Taurus at one of their events but then COVID hit. Since then they’ve been doing stuff online and are now soon launching an auction / for sale site, info is in that link as well.

Doc boght one when they 1st came out, strictly for taking his four Irish Wolfhounds to the vet. Alot of problems ,but outlasted the wolfhounds, the new wolfhoumd pup got pass seat of the SM, DS23 Or Daocs collection.
With child #2 on the way we were in the wagon market in 1985… our ’82 Accord sedan wasn’t going to handle two kids and a retriever. I seriously considered buying a 505; it came down to it or a Volvo 245.
The 505 was really nice, much roomier and more comfortable than the 245. But the combination of total sluggishness (I think it had 98 HP vs the um… “massive” 114 of the Volvo) and worries over reliability swayed us to the Swede.
There’s none left in Europe, they were all exported to the African continent where they adore their Pigots.

I know but compared to 404 ads this is not very much, a Lybian guy next to my workshop is even exporting now a Renault R10 from the seventies, I wonder who needs an old Renault 10 overthere?
I saw one 505 wagon here in Santa Cruz about 5-6 years ago. Clean and straight. Last sedan I saw here was a taxi, may ten years. Interestingly, both sightings were at the same intersection where I saw a 405 around 8 years ago. I should have my camera handy there.
I just got a ride home in one of these…must have been New Year’s Day…in 1998. I’m old.
Paul, here’s an update from your neighbor in College Hill. That Peugeot 505 wagon I’ve seen parked many times in front of the yellow house on the west side of Charnelton between 19th and 20th ave. Have not been able to speak with the owner. However, if you have not already seen it you must visit a house on 33rd Ave. between Hilyard and Ferry. Four Citroen DS are parked there, at least one of which runs. I spoke with the owner on Wednesday and he told me he actually owns seven, and is restoring them. He’s in touch with a network of Citroën mechanics and restorers. It was inspiring! I think I’d rather own a Peugeot myself. We think alike.
It’d be a tough choice between one of these, a Cressida wagon, and a later 740 Turbo wagon as it likely was when they were all still new.
I for one like the visual upgrades Peugeot did to these over the years, the faired in bumpers look good as do the wheelcovers. Great color too.
Reading things like this always makes me feel like I’m in a different reality. The oldest any-vehicle I ever see where I live is an early-90’s Toyota Camry and occasionally a Honda Accord. It gets quite dull so that’s one reason I come to this site.
That’s the truth. All the 90s and colder cars are gone or garage queens. People use them up and they are gone. Cars that sit around outside age quickly too due to the humidity I guess.
I’m not sure there were ever any Peugeot wagons in my town or county.

At what point does parts availability become an issue with keeping a 30+ year old Peugeot on the road?
Still a few 505 sedans around my area of Los Angeles but the last wagon I saw regularly was sporting some nasty front-end damage when I last spotted it a few years ago, so I assume it’s joined its French brethren in the graveyard. And I don’t recall any 505s with these wheels (I’m assuming they’re steel wheels with plastic covers, but I could be wrong): all the ones I’ve seen have had alloys.
On a side note, I’m really loving the fourth picture in this post: perfectly in-focus car contrasted with the artistic background blurring. It’s exceptionally rare I get one of my in-motion shots to turn out this well, and when I do it makes me feel like a professional photographer for thirty seconds or so until I accidentally stick my finger in the next shot.

There’s a smaller Peugeot sedan, a 406 in my town, probably brought in by newcomers as it only appeared in the last 5 years or so, and I’ve seen a 508 once (maybe passing through) but no 505s.
I haven’t seen any 505s in Seattle in some time, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
~25 years ago Paul Shipman, founder of Redhook Brewing, had a 505 wagon. I don’t know if he still has it.
There is a wagon street parked on the Upper West Side of Manhattan near my apartment in excellent condition.
I have a soft spot for 505s – it’s the first car I can remember – my parents bought a new 1983 505 when I was 2 – they loved that car.
