Tom Klockau sent me this video with the question posed in the title. Actually, it’s more sick-making than corny, but than that’s pretty much my automatic response to hearing the Bee Gees. Or seeing an LTDII, never mind a singing one. So have I answered the question?
I liked that more than I should admit. Just like I feel about the Bee Gees… So Soothing…so 1978. Love so right indeed. Not one of their better songs. Tragedy.
The tendency is to confuse the music with the times. The world and we were both younger in 1978; everything was new, times were messed up but we knew no others. All was fresh – even the raw pains that come of the time.
“Stayin’ Alive” – and Saturday Night Fever – can’t help but give me a double-whammy in the memory circuit. Like someone said…this cut was the Brothers Gibb trying to make a B-side an A.
Now…”Tragedy” – that carries. With youthful exuberance, comes the inevitable crash.
None of which speak of the QUALITY of this music – of Aussie falsettos singing industrial-weave disco on AM Top-40 mills…but it was the soundtrack of many of our lives. Today’s kids don’t know how good they have it, with so many OTHER forms of media to choose from
their best songs imo are, Massachusettes ,and To Love Somebody, Lonely Days… even Jive Talkin’ , Nights on Broadway…
The brothers Gibb are too painful to listen to for me I hated disco and them with a passion, sorry.

Yes, yes that is quite corny. Its perfect though with the cars swaying to the beat.All it needed was some gold chains and an open collar on the hood with a bit chest hair.
The Torino needed to be a Gran Fury though.

Yes I was thinking a Cordoba in place of the Gran Torino and Jive Talking in place of whatever song that was. I love the little teeth that the cars have and definitely not too corny!

If you observed correctly, you will notice that Raphael Orlove found this video HERE. It at least means that CC is somewhat well known within the automotive journalist community.
Mr. Orlove visits here just about daily, and I see the effects of that very often in his work. if it isn’t a direct “snatch” or link, often he gets ideas that may well have started here. He did a “Top Ten Ex-Military Vehicles To Drive” the day after we had a post on the ex-military Blazer. Maybe he should start tithing to CC 🙂

“Love So Right” was the Bee Gees phoning it in. Every other song they ever did was better IMO…in fact I’d call it a shameless rewrite of “Fanny” (Be Tender With My Love)…
The scariest part is when the headlights start blinking. If there’s one thing we learned from Pixar’s Cars, it’s that the vehicles look a hell of a lot better when the eyes are on the windshield. Putting them so far down makes them look inhuman.
Also, I was disappointed that in the video of the Doobie Brother’s “Listen to the Music,” the backing vocal line of “won’t you listen to the music…” in the final chorus was completely disregarded. It’s one thing to not care about the vehicles. But to not even care about the music? UNACCEPTABLE! ONE MMMMMILLION YEARS DUNGEON!
The only thing that kept me paging through all the other 70’s tunes after that was bile fascination.
Gad. Of course, is there a better choice of cars to be the Bee Gees? Personally, I would like to see maybe some older performers. Frank Sinatra out of a 61 Continental? Or how about Louis Jordan and his Tympani Five out of a ’49 Chrysler? That I could get behind. 🙂

I’d replace the ’75-’76 Torino on the left with a ’78-’79 stacked-headlight Cordoba. I kind of like it actually..other than the two front teeth anyway.

As a self-proclaimed “GibbHead”, it was cute but…
1. The cars should be British (all four brothers were from England) or at least Australian (where they has their 1st success)
2. Assuming the LTD II is Barry, the alignment of the cars is wrong, as it should be Left to Right.. Maurice, Robin and then Barry.
3. ” Love So Right” is a great song of a really good album “Children of the World” (1976), but not the top hit from that album which is “You Should Be Dancing”

Long ago I owned a ’78 Ranchero that was very similar in color to the lead singer in the video. While it’s 351 with glasspacks had a certain musical sound to them, it wasn’t near as talented as this one.
I don’t know about the song, but still remember when the LTD II was unveiled. Just as big as the full-size. What was the point?? Aaaaargh!!
Nowhere near. The LTD-II wheelbase was either 114″ or 118″ vs the LTD’s 121″ and much greater bulk.
That was just the right combination of bizarre for me, two thumbs up.
For me, the genre of ’70s Disco has grown more enjoyable over the years — if only because today’s radio pop has got that much worse. Most of the Malaise Era dance-music sounds better to me these days than in the past, when it was for me strictly in the “Quick, change the station!” category. In fact, I’ve become so open-minded on the subject of ’70s Disco that I’ve bought a couple of compilation CDs. Hell, I’ve even learned not to hate KC and the Sunshine Band.
But no change-of-heart regarding the BeeGees. These singing castrati still sound as terrible to my ears as they ever did: the audio equivalent of pillow-top seating and padded-vinyl landaus. They and the unfondly-remembered LTD II deserve each other. This group and this car are Brothers in Broughamness.
So is the video “Too corny for CC”? Well, I’d never presume to tell Paul or any other site-owner what is or isn’t appropriate for their site, as I’m a firm believer in “He who pays the bandwidth calls the tune.” But I can tell you that I didn’t make it all the way through this clip. After about 30 seconds of the Gibbs’ testicle-free warbling I had to FF through the rest, curious only to see if it got any better towards the end. Other than adding two more Malaisemobiles, it apparently doesn’t.
Now if somebody could animate, say, a ’69 Charger to sing some vintage Metallica, that I’d watch.
Great point about Brothers in Broughamness I was going to say the same thing. I hated Brougham style cars as a kid and still have no love for most of them aside from the nostalgic factor but like 80s Cadillacs so much now that I bought one. Always hated the BeeGees and find most of their stuff unlistenable to this day but I do have Jive Talkin’ on my iPod and think it’s up there with the best music from the era. Always puts me in a good mood.
In the world of Broughams the B and C bodies were different in that they were actually good cars. KC & The Sunshine band would be the equivalent for me in disco, good stuff.
Heck even the Stones dabbled in disco, Some Girls was one of their best albums. Touring now in LA 50 years (!) after they started. Talk about amazing.

Dad had a 1976 Gran Torino brown over creme w brown interior, which he replaced w a 1977 LTD II black over silver w dove grey interior, itself replaced w a 1979 LTD.
The grille badge on the Torino was removed by me prior to turning the car in, and I tried to mount it on the grille of the LTD II, however, the angle and depth and size of the openings Wes different enough that the badge wouldn’t fit without looking goofy… I expect that that badge is still in a toolbox at my mom’s house.
Based on this experience, I respectfully submit that the red car in the vid is a Ranchero, this based on the presence of the round grille badge.

I much appreciate the views/comments/suggestions (I read them all). I have been animating cars and trucks since 2008. My limitations are from the lack of quality front view photos of cars/trucks. Prior to relaunching in December, I had over 130 videos on YT. In 2009, one of them made its way to TV.
The Bee Gees animation I created was a remake from an older video I did (the old video featured Smart Cars). Every time I watch this new one, I crave crab legs!
This is a hobby of mine with the intention of creating a smile or two.

If you’re here still, MB…Popular Science used to use head-on shots of 1970s cars in it’s “Norbye-Dunn” auto tests. Not color; but straight-on shots. They did it from about 1971 until Jan Norbye said bye-bye…about 1975.
Google Books has the PS library there…look for the “Norbye-Dunn Report” each month from December through August. (The fall was given over to new-car hype)
It’s a nice effort you did here…and you typecast the LTDII perfectly. Now, if you could get a Mazda Miata to sing “Standing Still” – and maybe a Geo Metro, road-worn, to do “Torn”…you’d have the chick-car thing covered.

Most people hate ’em, but I really like the LTD II. My maternal grandparents’ last car was a ’77 LTD II in triple jade green. I loved that car!

I have absolutely zero love for that car; but I understand the connection that comes from having a past with a model. The LTDII was a reskinned Gran Torino; and that was one of the cars I learned to drive on. Had it in the family until I was twenty and the car was 115,000 miles…which in that age was remarkable.
Those weren’t known to be trouble-free but that particular one was. So, yeah…I take an interest in Gran Torinos that otherwise would escape logic and reason.
