I’ve been a bit busy, so I’m going to keep reaching into my goodie-bag of pictorial tricks for some cheap laughs. Now there are tons of boat mishap pictures on the web, as well as videos of tow vehicles rolling into the drink. But this one asks a serious question (at least to me): are boats normally properly secured on their trailers so that this wouldn’t/shouldn’t happen? No (reputable) trucker would haul a load on an open trailer without several hold-down straps thrown over it. Hmmm.
I reckon this would be hard to do if you tried, Id love to see the insurance claim form

And add to that, he hit a light pole and crunched his front end too!
Knowing how easily stupid some people are, this would not surprise me in the least.

“Clever” is fairly generous. FUBAR comes to mind pretty quick though.
Probably drunk as hell when he/she/they left the water. Would explain the lack of straps and the lack of avoiding hitting light poles.

Hmmm, maybe the boat was on a trailer, and the sudden stop from hitting the pole is what catapulted it to the truck bed?
I can see the remnants of a trailer – you can see it attached to the hitch on the back of the pickup.
My theory is that the boat was being towed on a trailer but not well attached. A sudden maneuver or braking caused the boat to slide forward off the trailer, onto the bed/roof of the pickup.

The sudden braking occurred when the truck hit the light pole.
Looks like about a $100,000 loss. Boat, trailer, truck. To say nothing of being dropped by said insurance company. Was that 12-pack worth it, buddy?
