Let’s revisit some of Chevrolet’s prime years with another gallery of vintage dealer postcards from the 1960s and 1970s. Along with plenty of models to check out, these postcards capture the colorful dealership signs and promos, distinctive architecture, and all the little details that made a trip to the local Chevy dealer a fun event.
The first stop is at Russ Hyma Chevrolet, South Haven, MI.
Johnson Chevrolet, Indiannapolis, IN.
Shaver Chevy, Gary, IN.
F. H. Dailey Chevrolet, Oakland, CA.
South Tacoma Chevrolet, Tacoma, WA.
Fasenmayer, Raytown, MO.
Hicks Bros. Chevrolet Co., Kansas City, MO.
E. B. Smith Chevrolet Inc., Nashville, TN.
Southview Chevrolet, Inver Grove Heights, MN.
Leiphart Chevrolet, Homestead, FL.
Weed Chevrolet, Bristol, PA.

Wow, that Southview dealer looks pretty impressive!
Great pictures, I’d love to go back in time and stroll the lot. But I sure wouldn’t want to deal with the service department.
I worked as a GM service advisor for a while in 2005. They were totally predatory. Most customers stopped coming after their first boinking. We charged $660 for front pads and rotors at the time, exactly double of what we charged when I was at Chrysler.
And what was the response of the dealer? We were bad advisors because we were not selling hard enough.
Old dealerships become far less interesting after signage and architecture was standardized around 1970. Still, some dealers managed to work around the new restrictions here, like Chaver Chevrolet which looks like giant electric shave.
The service dept @ “Smith”, in “Nashville” probably not so open/airy as the pic. “Dib’s” on the lil, “Vdub” @ “Weed, Chevy”!
“74-5, Nova’s”, side by side at “Hyma”, in “MI”.
