No, this extended CC crash was not related to the cut fiber cable just over a week ago. Apparently one of the hard drives on our server was failing yesterday afternoon, so I thought I’d try a server re-boot. Given the specific issue, since the backup hard drive was working in an unusual mode (“re-silvering”), that was not a good idea. It caused a major crash, and our pro had to run a program all night to make sure no files had been damaged. Anyway, we’re back up, although with only one healthy drive. A replacement has been installed, but until all the files have been transferred, the site may be a bit slow.
Since all of the new content scheduled for today is up, we’re going to call that Thursday’s content now, and push off the schedule. So take your time and savor what’s up through tomorrow. Sorry for the interruption.

Glad to hear things are back up and running. I wonder if posting updates as well as notices in regards to problems with Curbside Classic in the Curbside Classic Cohort on Flickr is a possiblity?
A gentle suggestion should this happen again: place a notification on the CC Facebook page. I realize not everyone may know to go there, but it’s worth a shot.

Whenever I see a favorite site (like CC) go down, a part of me worries that it’ll be for good. I’m very glad that’s not the case here.
Usually a blog is healthy enough to stay up for quite a while unlike tumblr/flickr/twitter account. And I’m glad it’s not about money this time, as the other LGBT website I have been visiting since my early teen years went down for long time due to falling income, and owner was asking for money on Twitter few times. Despite my little donation, it couldn’t keep the site from sliding down.

I figured something big must’ve happened, since the site was down completely all day. Glad to see it’s back on the road, albeit running on the spare ballast resistor. 🙂
I’ve recently started having “problems” with my phone and/or service provider and figured your “crash” was part of my problem.
This is 1 of 3 or 4 websites I visit on a daily basis (and can I really count Craigslist?) so the prospect of a day without Curbside Classic was unthinkable

Thanks for taking the time to work out what was wrong with the server Paul! I come here to learn about every day cars and the little oddities that used to be every day cars. It feeds a little quirk of mine. If this site ever went down I don’t know what I’d do!
