Art-car time today here at CC, with this find by Ralf K uploaded at the CC Cohort; a third-generation Firebird (I think), reborn as a “Phoenix”. And isn’t it appropriate? From Fire to Phoenix? And well, a Pontiac Phoenix was also a thing (in RWD and FWD), although this one is certainly a more flamboyant take on the idea.
There’s a lot of work on this “Phoenix”, if not necessarily beauty. Can anyone ID where all the bits that were used come from? In any case, this “Phoenix” looks in desperate need of a new rebirth, considering its current location. From the looks of things, that’s more likely to come from the crusher than any willing crafty hands.
Thank God it’s in a junk yard!
I want that bronze color ’78 Olds 98 sedan in the background of that 1st pic! The art car should be crushed, the sooner the better for all of us!

Since I’ve been there many times over the past 16 years, as it’s an hour drive from my home, this looks like it’s in the Desert Valley yard in Casa Grande, Arizona. Fortunately, I didn’t see this assault on the eyes last time I was there a few years ago.

Well sadly going by the black taillights and rear ground effects it’s a Trans Am, not just a regular old Firebird. The scoop on the roof is a 77-81 Trans Am shaker and I’m fairly positive the grille is from a first gen Explorer. The headlights look very familiar but I’m drawing a blank trying to recall them

I guess I have to stand up for the Phoenix and its attempted status as an art car. All things considered, this Pontiac (?) does not really quite rise to the full definition of art car. The Phoenix seems to be a much more symmetrical composition than most art cars. In fact, it looks like something that could actually be driven.
All of which seems to barely qualify it as an art car, and yet, I applaud the effort.
I think that whoever created it did a great job with motorcycle or Vespa fenders. Too bad that it ended up in the junkyard versus in some parade or museum somewhere.
Truth be told, I might not find the art attractive; but I’ll give more credit to the would-be artist for having thought it over and undertaken some planning and created something than those “art cars” where someone hot-glues 500 dominoes or mirror-ball keychains on a 76 Monza and calls it art.

This seems like a great candidate for something like the Great Beater Challenge. It is an interesting design for sure. Eye catching rather than eye pleasing.
There are some rather nice cars in this yard. The Cadillac coupe behind it would be a nice cruiser. A first generation Corvair, a Buick Roadmaster, 60s Oldsmoible?
