Been there, done that–actually, I didn’t MAKE mine but spent much time fixing them up after attaining them from people who no longer needed them. I’ve definitely gotten good use out of them! 🙂

Not just in the midwest, but here in New England as well. I did it on at least one of my small trucks back in the day when the beds would rust out well before the cab became un-usable. Changing over the bed was not much more difficult than changing a tire, although it did help to have a helper.
Some people like to sit up high.

Beds and cabs used to be shipped from there to the midwest for pickup owners to replace their rusty ones. Maybe still?
