If you’re wondering why I’ve not written any new longer posts these past couple of weeks it’s because I’ve been: a) skiing; b) taking a break c) updating the CC Archive Portals. All are true, but sadly, “c” is the most true. Fortunately, the lousy weather here has made it somewhat bearable, as it’s mind-numbingly tedious and boring work. But it’s essentially over for now, and I encourage you to take the expanded and updated Archive portals for a test spin.
The problem is that every entry in these portals has to be created manually, since I didn’t have the foresight to set up an automatic archiving system at the beginning, and even if I had, it wouldn’t be anywhere nearly as good as ours are, being categorized by brands, age, subjects of various kinds, etc.. And although I think it’s relatively complete now, undoubtedly stuff is missing too. So if you’re a Contributor and see a long-format post of yours missing, do let me know.
Yes, we can only archive the more in-depth posts, as we recently crossed the 10,000 total posts threshold. There’s no way to archive everything. But the easy way to find something if it’s not in the archive, or you don’t want to bother hunting for it, is to just use the “Search Curbside Classic” bar on the near-upper right side bar. That’s what I use, almost exclusively. But then the Archives are great for just browsing, and they’re very popular, as verified by our stats.
A big thank you to all of you authors who did your own archival updates, and to Ingvar, who did a major update a couple of years ago. It’s kept me from going mad(der). Now on to writing something new and interesting.

Niggling point, Paul.
My CC on the King Midget is correctly placed in the “American-brands-other” archive.
However, the “brand” it’s listed under is “King”.
The actual name of the manufacturer was “Midget Motor Manufacturing Corporation”
Is it worth changing? You decide.

Paul, thank you for doing this. I know I did some, but suspect I too dropped the ball. However, I did add a section for train museums the other day after Big Paws article.
Question: If a person puts a link into an upcoming article in the portals, will it only become visible after the article runs? For instance, I have a CC scheduled for Friday morning. I’m less likely to forget about placing it in the portals if I do so with scheduling it. So if I put that link there now, before it runs, will it be awaiting going live and then the link will work? If not, what will happen?
I’m pretty sure the url link is only fully functional until after it is posted. I’ll do a test to verify.

I have returned to this archive time and again for interesting things to read about; thank you Paul for all your hard work!
I am very impressed. The archive is a real bitch to keep up, but a real gem to have. I use it often for browsing. May I suggest some sort of plan for the future? Either daily or at least weekly updates, so there’s not much of a backlog piling up. And that someone is responsible for doing that. Or that all writers hereon are responsible for their own articles going into the archive. It’s not much of extra work per article, it’s only a pain if it’s piling up.
Yes, a scheduled monthly sweep/update, along with paying the bills. 🙂
I, for one, would like to thank you for completing such a task and for your devotion to this site. I enjoy each and every one of the articles – even those about GM. Keep the locomotive posts coming, too!

Thanks, Paul! I was just using the Archives the other day when I wanted to explain the history of the last DKW (the Ur-Audi that sounded like a hopped-up Lawn Boy) to my son. He says that in the Internet age you have to add a link to anything you post, because his generation doesn’t know how to go to the library and look up stuff in the stacks, or is unwilling to do so, but this works for me. I find it particularly helpful when I am trying to cross-reference vehicles in order to study styling or engineering from a particular era.
Thanks so much, Paul and others! The Archives are one of the many things that make this site great. Many of us haven’t been here for the entire time the site has existed, so it’s a great opportunity for us to catch up on topics of interest that we may have missed.

There is one thing that always puzzled me though: under “European Brands”, there are a lot of British brands… Not that I’m a Brexiteer, but if you wish I could help clean these up, as well as any dodgy links I can find (for instance, the Humber Sceptre link goes to the Singer Gazelle article). Send me a msg if you’re interested.
Oops; I forgot to delete those in The European archive after I copied them over to the UK. Quick fix, and the Humber too. But if you want to spend some more time with them, shoot me an e-mail and I’ll set you up.
