I’m back! The FIRST Robotics Competition season has reached its end for our team. At our second event we qualified for the World Championships extending our season another month, not once, but twice. We not only won the regional event but also the Regional Chairman’s Award, the highest award a team can at the regional level. In addition yours truely was blessed by my students with a nomination for the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award, the highest award at the regional level for a Mentor. This year the Championships were in St Louis where I found this fine machine.
Last year we won our way to the event as well so this believe it or not is the second time I have came across this fine piece of workmanship parked in downtown St Louis. This time I knew I had to capture it for you our readers.
Yes that is a Buick grille protecting part of that oversize radiator.
Notice how the radiator is partially exposed. For greater cooling, perhaps?
And Power by Ford valve covers complete with gaskets to go along with the Ford style truck mirrors pictured above.
Not sure what the RGC badge and the PMW “graphics” are supposed to stand for; any guesses? The outlines on the trunk I think are where a wooden spoiler used to be attached, can’t remember if it was there last year or not.
Has somebody been reading “Murilee Martin’s” work a bit too religiously?
I’m guessing PMW = BMW…
Sure would like to hear/see more about the robotics. Do you have a link?
The organization’s website is usfirst.org but be forewarned that it is a mess to navigate. Feel free to E-mail me at [email protected] if you want to discuss things and I can also send you some other links.
Congratulations, Eric! A great achievement and a great honor. Thank you for adding more engineers and other tech-savvy young people to the world!
Thanks, it was a surprise to be nominated and win such a prestigious award (at least in the FIRST community). I don’t really think I’m worthy but I do try to do the things that make me worthy.
I see a (future) 24 hours of lemons race car!
A long time in the future maybe, but as I noted in the article this is not the first time I’ve seen this fine piece of work. Since it was a year ago that I first saw it chances are they are going to keep on depending on it as their personal mode of transpo as long as they can.
Why do I have the feeling that the owner of this car dresses in a matching blue and yellow superhero costume with a similar yellow “zap” line across the chest.
Cpt. Corolla?
maybe “zab” instead of zap?
considering the cam covers extend up out of the wooden hood, I believe this is a VOHC (very overhead cam) engine.
