I’ve (obviously) never used our email notification system, but apparently a fair number of you do, and never visit the site directly. Because I did notice that a number of regular commenters suddenly disappeared late last year some time. And now they’re back, but commenting from stories posted in December 2017. And a number of them have written me to please stop the barrage of all those backed-up email notifications that have suddenly started bombarding them, as in hundreds of them.
I’m not sure exactly what the problem is, but I do know an easy fix: just visit the site directly! Like the rest of us!
OK, that’s probably not a realistic solution if you’ve become accustomed to only responding to notifications from the sites you follow. So we’ll try and fix that, just as soon as we find somebody who can.
And Dave Saunders, who got us past most of the 503 Error issues, has been apprised of the return of that problem, oddly only for random periods of time before it goes away. Like last night, at 8PM. And a milder version the previous night, at 8PM. Hmm; there’s a pattern there.
I beg your forbearance on our tech issues. It’s painful, especially for those of us trying to write a post in the back. I couldn’t finish the CC I had planned on for this morning. Oh well.

How do you unsubscribe? I’m here most days, so I don’t need the emails either.
Pete, I was able to unsubscribe by clicking on a link in one of the notification emails which led me to a spot on WordPress where I could unsubscribe. Worked like a charm. 🙂

The last few days I’ve been missing photos – sometimes I get a ghost outline of the photo frame with a coloured doohickey in the top left corner, spilling over onto the text, but no actual picture. Like in Don’s Corona piece this morning. And it’s reeeeaaaalllll ssssllllloooooooooowwww to load, like several minutes.
But on the bright side there’s been no 503 errors.
Update – the pictures work now!
The only weird issue I’ve been having is with some the category pictures on the right hand side, and only when using my iPad. On the PC @ work, it works just fine. Some, but not all, of the pictures are all stretched out in the y-axis…..
Oh, and sorry for imaging your messages, guys. Just trying to demonstrate the issue.
I had the same problem, too, on my iPad for a while. Today, that seems to be resolved.
I still have that problem on my iPad today (Friday 5/11). Have had it for quite a while.
But iDevices seem to have their own set of unsolvable problems that Apple chooses to ignore.
Well I am monitoring the site at the same time tonight. Nothing so far.

Yes. For the past four/five days, my gmail account has been bombarded with old posts from this site. I’ve had to mark them as spam so they don’t interfere with my regular mail. I’m deleting about fifty a day now!
I did get a 503 message the other day when attempting to post from my iPhone. It was the first recurrence (and so far only) of problem 503.
Is it of any value to the administrator to report them to you when they occur?
The occasional random one probably not as there are too many factors but if you see it down for more than 15 minutes it is probably impacting everyone.
To keep up with my favorite websites I use an aggregator called igHome as my home page. It’s set up to receive Curbside Classic’s RSS feed and update every 10 minutes, so I can see what’s new without going to CC or getting emails.
I had over 400 emails from CC on the weekend, have unsubscribed for now.
Got a batch of emails last week. Had tried commenting but could never get followup comments and following conversations is half the fun. It was like drinking from a firehose and I made no comments because too much time had elapsed. The emails stopped yesterday. I do visit the site but prefer to scan with my email.
Doesn’t seem to be fixed yet but tried making a comment and when I go to confirm it says I cannot subscribe because I have something pending that I have to do. No clue what but I disenrolled in several I would have preferred to follow.
WordPress seems to be doing ok for a couple other sites I follow.
